    Lab Technician: Trade

    The key purpose of this role is to provide packaging lab governance and laboratory instrumentation management and support to the value chain by performing packaging QA checks and instrumentation verification, non-conformance management, training and troubleshooting to ensure compliance to the AB InBev standards and specifications.

    Key roles and responsibilities:

    • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
    • Maintain a safe and healthy environment.
    • Prepare samples and conduct sample analyses.
    • Request for chemicals /reagents and other working tools from Specialists.
    • Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated according to manualized methods.
    • Carry out specialized and highly specialized quality analyses for which the shift-based teams are not responsible.
    • Record the results of analyses on appropriate information systems and communicate results where required.
    • Conduct analysis of results to identify problems and improvement opportunities timeously.
    • Assist the shift-based teams in the execution of quality analysis, where required.
    • Conduct calibration of specialist equipment for which the labs are responsible and provide calibration assistance.
    •  Comply with safety, health and environmental procedures and legislation.
    •  Maintain safety and housekeeping standards.
    •  Locate spares and calibrate relevant documentation systems.
    • Adherence to PPE policies.
    • Maintenance tools are in good working order.
    • Carry out required maintenance as per instrumentation maintenance schedule.
    • Apply problem-solving techniques to determine equipment maintenance problems or issues.
    • Requests specialist assistance where appropriate.
    • Verifies that maintenance has been carried out correctly and that equipment is functioning properly.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Minimum of B.Sc/HND in Biological Sciences/Microbiology or related field
    • 1-2 years’ experience as a Laboratory Technician
    • Good knowledge of micro laboratory systems, processes, and analyses
    • Experience in the application of problem-solving techniques and statistics.
    • Good understanding of HACCP, GMP standards and CIP requirements, PC literacy Good allround knowledge of AB InBev manufacturing processes and philosophies

    Maintenance Planner

    The key purpose of this role is to maintain a safe, healthy, and risk-free working environment. An opportunity exists for a Maintenance Planner, Packaging, at International Breweries Plc, Onitsha Plant. The incumbent will also ensure that effective maintenance plans are in place for the maintenance of applicable equipment, that spares are available for planned work, and that resources are in place to execute.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Implement and maintain maintenance planning system on SAP
    • Manage and maintain maintenance data
    • Analyze maintenance data and reports 
    • Plan scheduled maintenance and monitor maintenance projects
    • Create, update and issue maintenance reports 
    • Coach and train Specialists, Artisans and Operators
    • Initiate and update work instructions 
    • Audit maintenance documentation and output 
    • Support, guide and coach maintenance team members

    • First Degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

    • Proficiency in SAP will be an added advantage
    • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications

    Brewing Process Artisan

    The key purpose of this role is to provide specialised Artisan skill and knowledge to the shift team, and to support the operations, maintenance and problem solving activities.

    OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

    • Provide specialist support to the shift based teams during operations
    • This will include standby and day shift support
    • Where requested, assist as a functional expert in problem solving in giving support to the operators
    • Where requested, provide guidance and advice to the shift based team on mechanical & electrical equipment, mechanical & electrical fault finding and correct responses to failure modes
    • Where requested, provide coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer of machine operation to shift based teams
    • Take part, as functional expert, in Regional and Central plant​ optimisation trials​

    PLANNED MAINTENANCE

    • Carry out work during the planned maintenance window in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule issued by the planner
    • Where scheduled work can not be completed, feed back to the maintenance controller for direction
    • This may involve rescheduling the work or prioritizing outstanding work
    • Assist fellow team members in the execution of their tasks in support during planned maintenance
    • Complete any administration and SAP tasks in support of planned​ maintenance
    • Partake in maintenance post mortems to feedback problems, opportunities and learnings from maintenance activities

    ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

    • Partake in cleaning, lubrication and inspection in accordance with the maintenance schedule issued by the Maintenance Planner
    • Carry out routine maintenance activities in accordance with the maintenance schedule
    • Where problems have been uncovered during routine maintenance, these must be resolved using the appropriate problem solving techniques
    • If required, additional resources may be called in to assist
    • Carry out condition monitoring activities where these have been allocated to the Technician in accordance with the CM schedule

    RUNNING REPAIRS

    • On request, partake in carrying out running repairs on plant and equipment, or support the Shift Artisans in carrying out repairs
    • When carrying out repairs, assess the problem and determine a course of action
    • Where required, specialist assistance may be called in
    • This may include internal resources such as Instrument Technicians, or external resources such as Contractors or Suppliers
    • Where repairs indicate that major work is required, such as re-wiring a motor, this must be transferred to the engineering workshop for attention
    • Verify that where running repairs have been carried out, this has addressed the problem
    • Complete the administration tasks relating to any running repairs that the Technician has carried out
    • This includes all SAP inputs
    • Where running repairs cannot be carried out, communicate this to the​ Maintenance Planner to ensure the work is planned into the next planned​ Window

    PROBLEM SOLVING

    • Where problems have occurred during routine activities, apply the correct problem solving approach to resolve
    • Where required, call in additional resources to assist in problem solving or escalate to the Engineering Controller for direction
    • Assist fellow team members to resolve problems on request
    • Take part, as functional expert, in FFA's on request

    HOUSEKEEPING AND SAFETY

    • Operate in a safe manner at all times, and identify and highlight unsafe work practices so that these may be corrected
    • Carry out work according to the work instructions and adhere to appropriate SAB policies and procedures
    • Carry out housekeeping tasks, and apply 5S principles during the execution of duties
