    Description

    • Prepare alcohol or non-alcohol beverages for bar and restaurant patrons
    • Interact with customers, take orders and serve snacks and drinks
    • Assess customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations
    • Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails
    • Plan and present bar menu
    • Check customers’ identification and confirm it meets legal drinking age
    • Restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies

    Job Summary

    The assistant chef provides support to the lead chef where food preparation is concerned. He/She also ensures that the kitchen is clean and operational.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensuring the food preparation areas and equipment, as well as food storage areas are clean and hygienic
    • Washing utensils and dishes and making sure they are stored appropriately
    • Sorting, storing and distributing ingredients
    • Washing, peeling, chopping, cutting and cooking foodstuffs and helping to prepare meals, salads and desserts
    • Assist in the planning of the menu and in the preparation of the meals for varying sized groups.
    • Purchase, verify quality and quantity of food and kitchen supplies required for daily activities and various functions.
    • Estimate the amount and kind of food to be purchased, taking into account the nature of the function and the number of guests.
    • Assist with planning, budgeting and maintaining inventory.
    • Work towards exceeding customer’s expectation by encouraging and promoting high level of service.
    • Ensure proper arrangement and garnishing of food.
    • Manage food logs and monitor the quality and quantity of food prepared.

    Key Requirements

    • Must have Passion for food: someone who enjoys the process of food preparation and creating menus.
    • Ability to pay attention to details: adherence to specific ingredients and measurement needed for various menus.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of hygiene and cleanliness in the restaurant area
    • Proven 2 - 3 years relevant experience in a 4 star or 5 star hotel or restaurant.
    • Ability to work with figures and manage budget.
    • Ability to learn fast
    • Must understand the importance of health and hygiene
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high volume environment
    • Knowledge of standard food preparation and storage technique
    • Effective communication skills.
    • Must be proficient in the use of Opera and Micros 
    • Must be willing to work within Kano
