    Internal Audit & Compliance Officer

    Purpose of the Role

    • The Internal Audit and Compliance Officer will oversee and execute the internal audit function in the organization.
    • S/he will lead the compliance unit to ensure adherence to organizational policies, donor requirements, and regulatory standards.
    • Provide independent assurance on the adequacy of risk management, governance, and control processes and report to management on how to mitigate possible risks.

    The Internal Audit and Compliance Officer’s primary responsibility is to:
    Internal Audit:

    • Develop and implement an annual internal audit plan based on a risk assessment of CBI’s operations and activities.
    • Conduct periodic audits to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, compliance with policies, and operational procedures.
    • Review financial records, operational processes, and program activities to ensure accuracy and integrity.
    • Prepare detailed audit reports with findings, risks, and actionable recommendations for improvement.
    • 5Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and provide periodic updates to the Executive Director and Board.

    Compliance:

    • Ensure CBI’s activities align with organizational policies, donor regulations, and applicable legal standards.
    • Conduct compliance reviews of key organizational processes, including procurement, financial management, and human resources.
    • Develop and maintain a compliance framework, including policies, tools, and processes to mitigate risks.
    • Serve as the focal point for donor audits and external compliance reviews, coordinating responses and actions as required.
    • Provide training and capacity building to staff on compliance standards and best practices.

    Risk Management:

    • Identify and assess risks within CBI’s operations and programs, recommending mitigation strategies.
    • Develop and update the organization’s risk register, ensuring proactive monitoring of key risks.
    • Provide strategic advice to leadership on risk management and control improvements.

    Governance Support:

    • Support the Board and management in strengthening governance structures and processes. 2. Ensure the organization adheres to statutory requirements, including tax and regulatory filings.

    Deliverables:

    • Comprehensive internal audit reports and compliance reviews.
    • Annual internal audit plan and risk assessment.
    • Updated compliance framework and risk register.
    • Training sessions and workshops on compliance standards for staff.
    • This JD sets the foundation for identifying a skilled professional to ensure CBI maintains high standards of accountability and compliance in its operations.

    Job Holder Entry Requirements
    Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Auditing, Business Administration, or a related field. A master's degree is an advantage.
    • Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, or CIA is highly preferred

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in internal audit, compliance, or risk management within a non-profit setting.
    • Strong knowledge of donor regulations, including USAID, EU, and UN agencies.
    • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing audit and compliance frameworks.
    • Excellent analytical, report-writing, and communication skills.
    • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.

    Skills (Special Training or Competence):

    • Strong understanding of risk-based auditing and compliance methodologies.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
    • Proficient in using audit management and accounting software.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

    Report Writer / Editor Consultant

    Purpose of Role

    • The Report Writer will support Care Best Initiative’s documentation, learning, and communication efforts by developing high-quality reports, case studies, success stories, and other programmatic documentation.
    • The role ensures accurate and timely reporting that aligns with donor requirements and showcases the impact of CBI’s humanitarian and development interventions.
    • The role bridges the gap between program implementation, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), and external communication through clear and compelling writing.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepare and edit donor reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) in collaboration with MEAL and Program teams, ensuring adherence to donor guidelines and organizational standards.
    • Develop success stories, human-interest pieces, and case studies from field activities using ethically sound storytelling approaches.
    • Collect, verify, and analyze data and beneficiary feedback to inform report writing and learning materials.
    • Collaborate with project teams to produce situation reports, project updates, and visibility materials as needed.
    • Support proposal development by contributing writing inputs, formatting, and background research.
    • Maintain a documentation system (digital archive) for reports, photos, stories, and other communication materials.
    • Edit and proofread reports and documents submitted by project teams for accuracy, grammar, consistency, and formatting.
    • Participate in key field visits and program meetings to gain contextual knowledge for documentation.
    • Contribute to the development of capacity-building materials or editorial guidance on report writing for field staff.
    • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the MEAL Coordinator or Program Manager.

    Requirements
    Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience in report writing or communications in a development or humanitarian setting.
    • Demonstrated experience in writing donor reports for national and international organizations.
    • Strong understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation concepts, indicators, and reporting tools.

    Experience:

    • Sector Experience in one or more of: Health, Nutrition, GBV, SRH, Protection, Child Protection, or WASH.
    • Experience gathering and writing success stories, case studies, and human-interest stories directly from beneficiaries and community members.
    • Prior exposure to donor reporting requirements and use of indicator-based reporting in collaboration with MEAL teams.
    • Field-level understanding of humanitarian or development programming, especially in fragile contexts like northeast Nigeria.
    • Experience producing reports for international NGOs, UN agencies, or institutional donors.
    • Capacity to work across cross-functional teams (MEAL, Program, Communications) and coordinate report inputs from multiple field locations.

    Skills (Special Training or Competence):

    Advocacy Consultant

    Purpose of Role

    • The Advocacy Consultant will drive strategic advocacy and stakeholder engagement to advance CBI’s mission of delivering humanitarian aid, promoting human capital development, and strengthening systems across Northeast and Northwest Nigeria.

    Job Description / Principal Accountabilities

    • Lead the design and execution of CBI’s advocacy and communications strategy in alignment with its mission and program priorities.
    • Develop targeted advocacy plans across thematic areas including health, protection, nutrition, education, WASH, food security and climate resilience.
    • Facilitate stakeholder engagements, and roundtables at local, state, and national levels to strengthen partnerships and promote CBI’s agenda.
    • Represent CBI in key advocacy coalitions, technical working groups, and public forums, ensuring alignment with humanitarian and development frameworks.
    • Oversee the creation and dissemination of high-quality advocacy content such as policy briefs, reports, success stories, newsletters, and position papers.
    • Develop and manage integrated media campaigns aligned with CBI’s key focus areas, targeting both local and international audiences.
    • Drive CBI’s digital presence and engagement across platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X), ensuring growth and strategic visibility.
    • Coordinate closely with program and policy teams to ensure advocacy messaging is rooted in field evidence and responsive to community realities.
    • Build and strengthen partnerships with government agencies, CSOs, UN agencies, donors, and media actors to support collaborative advocacy initiatives.
    • Monitor media, legislative, and policy trends to guide strategic messaging and enable timely responses to emerging issues.
    • Support the development of community-centered campaigns, amplifying the voices of vulnerable groups and affected populations.
    • Facilitate knowledge sharing and learning by documenting lessons from advocacy efforts and integrating feedback into future strategies.
    • Support proposal development and donor engagement by contributing advocacy components and success stories to funding applications and reports.
    • Lead training and mentorship for CBI staff and partners to enhance capacity in advocacy, communication, and campaign design.
    • Organize press briefings, media visits, and stakeholder meetings, positioning CBI as a trusted voice on key humanitarian and development issues.
    • Develop talking points, briefing notes, and speeches for senior leadership and field representatives for public and high-level events.
    • Ensure consistency in brand messaging and visual identity across all external communication materials.
    • Engage with influencers, champions, and media personalities to amplify CBI’s messages and campaigns.
    • Ensure risk-sensitive communication, maintaining ethical standards and safeguarding principles in all public messaging.
    • Track and report on advocacy results and media reach, using data to adapt strategies and demonstrate impact.

    Job Holder Entry Requirements

    Experience:

    • At least 3–5 years of relevant work experience in advocacy, communications, or public affairs within the humanitarian or development sector.
    • Proven experience in designing and delivering advocacy strategies, media campaigns, and stakeholder engagement plans.
    • Solid experience in content development and digital media engagement across platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Instagram)

    Skills (Special Training or Competence):

    • Strong community engagement and facilitation skill
    • Attention to detail, keen at following procedures and meeting deadlines
    • Ability to organize tasks simultaneously and prioritize work
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills working with cross cultural and multi diverse teams

    • Working knowledge of Hausa or Kanuri is an added advantage
