    Electrical Fitter

    Job Description

    • The Electric Fitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution equipment and infrastructure within the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) network.
    • This role ensures the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the electrical distribution system by performing hands-on tasks, troubleshooting faults, and supporting the maintenance team.
    • The Electric Fitter will work under the supervision of a manager or supervisor to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of a National Diploma (ND) or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, or a related field.
    • Certification or vocational training in electrical fitting or a related trade is an added advantage.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years post NYSC of hands-on experience in electrical fitting, preferably in the power distribution industry.
    • Proven experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical distribution systems.
    • Strong technical skills in electrical fitting and troubleshooting.
    • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, equipment, and safety standards.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
    • Physical fitness and ability to work at heights or in confined spaces.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills.
    • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

    Cable Jointer

    Job Description

    • The Cable Jointer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical cables and associated infrastructure within the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) network.
    • This role ensures the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the electrical distribution system by performing specialized tasks such as cable jointing, termination, and testing.
    • The Cable Jointer will work under the supervision of a manager or supervisor to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.

    Requirements

    Cable Jointing and Termination:

    • Perform cable jointing and termination for low, medium, and high-voltage electrical cables. Install and repair underground and overhead cable systems, ensuring proper insulation and connection. Conduct cable splicing and ensure the integrity of joints to prevent faults and power losses.
    • Inspection and Identification of termination and jointing materials for 33KV, 11 and 415KV cable faults Laying and Connection of newly installed underground cables 33KV, IKV, and 0.415 KV underground Cables
    • Participate in underground fault tracing

    Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies while performing tasks.
    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure a safe working environment for oneself and team members.
    • Report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor immediately.

    Team Collaboration:

    • Work closely with other cable jointers, technicians, and engineers to complete maintenance and repair tasks efficiently.
    • Assist in training new team members and sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
    • Support the implementation of preventive maintenance programs and network upgrades.

    Maintenance and Repair:

    • Inspect, maintain, and repair damaged or faulty cables and associated equipment.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot cable faults, including short circuits, insulation failures, and grounding issues.
    • Replace or repair damaged cables, connectors, and jointing kits to restore network reliability.

    Testing and Commissioning:

    • Conduct cable testing, including insulation resistance, continuity, and high-voltage testing, to ensure proper functioning.
    • Commission new cable installations and ensure they meet technical specifications and safety standards.
    • Maintain accurate records of cable jointing activities, repairs, and equipment inspections.
    • Report completed tasks, faults resolved, and any issues encountered to the supervisor.
    • Provide input for improving maintenance processes and procedures.

    Tools and Equipment Management:

    • Use and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery required for cable jointing tasks.
    • Ensure proper storage and handling of materials and equipment to prevent damage or loss.
    • Report any defective tools or equipment to the supervisor for replacement or repair.

    Data Protection Clause:

    • To maintain all AEDC's data in strict confidence using such degree of care as is appropriate to avoid unauthorized access, use or disclosure of any data in accordance results and provide with Data Protection Act or any other applicable law/ regulation on recommendations for improvements.
