    WASH Officer

    Location: Kala-Balge and Dikwa LGA, Borno State

    Duration: 3 months

    ROLE PURPOSE

    Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and in close coordination with the Emergency WASH Coordinator, the WASH Officer will support the planning, supervision, and quality delivery of emergency WASH activities in the assigned location. The role covers water supply, water quality monitoring, sanitation follow-up, hygiene promotion, WASH-NFI support, and coordination with community structures and sector actors.

    SCOPE OF ROLE

    Reports to: Project Coordinator / Emergency WASH Coordinator

    Staff reporting to this post: Water quality monitors, chlorinators, hygiene promoters/community resource persons, and other field workers as assigned

    KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

    • Support implementation of emergency water, sanitation, and hygiene activities in line with the approved workplan and technical standards.
    • Supervise day-to-day field teams involved in water quality monitoring, chlorination, hygiene promotion, active case finding support, and community mobilisation.
    • Coordinate water point rehabilitation follow-up, temporary water supply actions, and basic sanitation support with technical teams and contractors where applicable.
    • Ensure routine water quality testing, chlorination follow-up, and documentation of technical and public health actions.
    • Support hygiene promotion and SBC activities, including household and community sensitisation, referrals, and WASH messaging for high-risk households.
    • Monitor and document WASH NFI distribution, community feedback, and post-distribution issues.
    • Work closely with nutrition and protection teams to ensure integrated delivery, especially for SAM-related WASH support and vulnerable households.
    • Contribute to technical assessments, supervision checklists, bill verification support, and activity reports.
    • Track field-level progress, identify implementation bottlenecks, and recommend practical corrective actions.
    • Maintain coordination with line ministries, RUWASSA, health actors, community leaders, and other WASH partners at LGA level.
    • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, accountability, and safety procedures during field implementation.
    • Support any other reasonable duties assigned for effective delivery of the 3-month activation.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Health, Public Health, WASH, or a related technical field.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • At least 2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian WASH programming.
    • Experience in water quality monitoring, hygiene promotion, sanitation follow-up, or small-scale emergency water systems.
    • Ability to supervise community-based workers, monitors, and field teams.
    • Good understanding of humanitarian WASH standards and documentation requirements.
    • Strong report writing, coordination, and basic data management skills.
    • Good communication skills in English and relevant local language(s).
    • Good IT skills, organisation, confidentiality, and ability to work under pressure.

    Project Assistant

    Location: Kala-Balge/Dikwa/Ngala LGA, Borno State

    Duration: 3 months

    ROLE PURPOSE

    Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and relevant sector leads, the Project Assistant will provide day-to-day administrative, operational, and field support to the emergency activation. The post holder will help teams organise activities, compile documentation, track attendance and distribution records, support logistics and procurement follow-up, and facilitate timely reporting across Nutrition and WASH activities.

    SCOPE OF ROLE

    Reports to: Project Coordinator and relevant sector officer

    KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

    • Support day-to-day planning and administrative follow-up for field activities under the emergency activation.
    • Assist sector teams with beneficiary records, activity attendance sheets, distribution lists, and filing of means of verification.
    • Support preparation of activity requests, movement plans, procurement requests, and operational paperwork.
    • Help compile weekly updates, photos, field notes, trackers, and reporting inputs from nutrition and WASH teams.
    • Support communication and coordination between field teams, office teams, community structures, and local authorities where required.
    • Ensure that project documents are complete, well filed, and available for monitoring, audit, and donor review.
    • Support data entry, reconciliation of field records, and basic tracker management.
    • Assist in organising meetings, trainings, distributions, supervision visits, and field-level community engagement activities.
    • Flag documentation gaps, schedule delays, or operational bottlenecks to the supervisor in a timely manner.
    • Support accountability and safeguarding actions, including handling of feedback records through approved channels.
    • Carry out any other reasonable task assigned to support effective project delivery during the 3-month activation.

    A diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Development Studies, Business Administration, or another relevant field.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • At least 1-2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian or development project support roles.
    • Experience supporting field documentation, filing, logistics follow-up, or basic project administration.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and relevant local language(s).
    • Good computer skills, especially in Word, Excel, email, and digital record management.
    • Strong organisation, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, and ability to work across teams.
    • Ability to work in challenging field locations and meet deadlines.
