    Hausa Editor

    WHAT TO DO:

    • Proofreading and fixing at least 50 articles per day (approximately 20 000 words) during working hours;
    • Ensuring that the best editorial practices and company standards are being followed carefully;
    • Double-check that names, places and organisations are spelt properly and that facts, dates and statistics are accurate;
    • Suggest changes to enhance articles’ readability, conciseness and style, sending writers an explanation of a mistake;
    • Check illustrations and captions are correct;
    • Checking grammar and spelling in social leads and headlines in Facebook posts.
    • Organising training sessions for editors to improve their performance

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Flawless command of the English language is essential, including grammar, spelling, punctuation and semantics;
    • Independence and dedication as this is a hybrid position (most of working time you can work remotely);
    • Good communication skills;
    • This is a work-from-home position that will require a laptop or PC, as well as a reliable and stable internet connection;
    • This is a full time position, Monday to Friday (9am to 6pm);
    • Expertise in the local and world news media industry would be an advantage.

    Junior Journalist

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
     

    • Develop and maintain a network of reliable sources/experts to gather firsthand information.
    • Identify and reach out to experts: You will actively search for subject matter experts, researchers, academics, industry professionals, and thought leaders relevant to the topics covered by our team.
    • Conduct short interviews: Schedule and conduct interviews with experts, ensuring that their comments align with our content requirements.
    • Research and fact-check: Assist in researching background information about the topics and experts being featured.
    • Your day-to-day work will be focused on establishing a network of experts, pitching questions to gather comments and adding them to our stories.
    • Through email, social media phone calls, and other communication channels, you will establish connections and will be responsible for preparing insightful questions, guiding the conversation, and capturing valuable quotes and comments.
    • Collaborate with our editorial team to ensure that all comments are factually accurate, add value and are contextually relevant.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
    • Proven experience as a news reporter or journalist.
    • Exceptional writing, grammar and communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Strong understanding of journalistic principles, including fact-checking and source verification.
    • Ability to work remotely (good internet connection and a laptop, minimum Intel Core i3).
    • Must be a self-driven individual with a strong desire to constantly learn, adapt and work under minimal supervision.
    • Must be able to use social media, PC, and Google services effectively.
    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail;
    • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines;
    • (will be a plus) Network of reliable sources and experts in various fields.
    • (will be a plus) Basic knowledge of Slack, Trello, Canva, and any CMS.

    Entertainment Editor

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Monitoring trending entertainment stories on social media.
    • Writing and publishing entertainment stories in line with our in-house style guide.
    • Conducting interviews and writing special format articles i.e. feature, analysis, fact-check, etc.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Degree or Higher Diploma (in journalism/media studies or related field will be an advantage).
    • Considerable experience in journalism and entertainment writing.
    • Perfect writing skills; narration and good grammar.
    • Great editorial judgment and quality entertainment news monitoring skills.
    • Impeccable communication and interviewing skills: both written and verbal.
    • Must be a strategic and analytical thinker.
    • Must be a self-driven individual with a strong desire to constantly learn, adapt and work under minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work remotely (good internet connection and a laptop, minimum Intel Core i3).
    • Must be able to use social media effectively.
