    IT Assistant

    Location: Biu, Borno
    Position Status: Full-time, Regular Employee
    Reports Directly To: Operations Officer Biu.
    Works Directly With: All staff

    Program / Department Summary

    • Mercy Corps has been present in Nigeria since 2012, focusing its interventions on humanitarian assistance, economic development, and conflict mitigation.
    • With the ongoing insurgency in Northeast Nigeria causing the displacement of millions of individuals, Mercy Corps started its humanitarian response in 2014 to address the rising humanitarian needs.
    • As the crisis has persisted, Mercy Corps’ strategy has also expanded to address the root causes of the conflict and seek to build the long-term resilience of communities with integrated programs focusing on governance, the recovery of markets and livelihoods, social cohesion and social protection, youth empowerment, and local conflict management.

    General Position Summary

    • This position is responsible for proactively anticipating and supporting the IT needs of Mercy Corps Biu and Gombe Office.
    • The job holder will work under the supervision of, and in collaboration with the Operations Officer Biu to monitor and maintain all IT Systems in Mercy Corps Biu office and regular support to Gombe.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
    • Read, understand, and regularly update the Mercy Corps IT Policy. Conduct IT orientations for new staff (Also periodically conduct refresher training) on the IT Policy. Monitor user activities to ensure adherence to these policies.
    • Conduct staff training on computer basics, use of MS Office 365 and other productive tools and applications as used in Mercy Corps.
    • Responsible use and confidentiality of any information identified as sensitive.
    • Regularly monitor the health and update status of Operating systems and Antivirus on each computer on the network and ensure a virus, malware-free network.
    • Assist the IT Systems Administrator in establishing a clear, back-up policy for the Mercy Corps office and undertake the necessary steps for this activity including designing a schedule and materials list. Ensure back-up and archives are made and stored as scheduled.
    • Under the guidance of the IT Systems Administrator, undertake the repairing and maintaining of LAN-s, internet systems and general IT maintenance.
    • Oversee repair of computers and IT equipment at a local level, when possible - facilitate and advise on best, safest and most economic solutions.
    • Maintain an efficient Local Area Network for the Mercy Corps office.
    • Identify equipment and accessories required for the smooth functioning of computers and IT equipment in Mercy Corps Facilitate the purchase of items through the Procurement Department.
    • Work with the IT Systems Administrator (and Asset Controller) to document and maintain all IT equipment/systems information to include but not limited to (specifications, system profiles, MAC address, IP Addresses, Network diagrams etc.)
    • Assist the procurement team under the guidance of the IT Systems Administrator to provide specifications on IT Equipment/Systems purchases.

    Security:

    • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
    • Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure and safe environment and are aware of IT policies.

    Accountability:

    • Accountable for following Mercy Corps Manual, guidelines, policies, and procedures; the Mercy Corps Code of conduct regarding procurement activities and MC Conflict of Interest policy.

    Knowledge and Experience

    • A relevant University Degree in Computer Sciences is desirable.
    • A minimum of three years experience in information technology systems (IT).
    • Experience in both hardware and software requirements in local area networking (LAN);
    • Mikrotik, CMNO, and Microsoft Office 365 Certifications are an added advantage.
    • Exclusive knowledge of internet, proxy, pop mail, and TCPIP settings, windows applications.
    • Experience with upright maintenance of all internet accounts, Logins, and account status.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members is required.
    • Ability to troubleshoot, plan and design low maintenance systems is a must.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain both wireless and cable connections is required.
    • Must understand, follow, and implement existing policies on IT equipment use and best practices.

    Learning and Leadership Development Intern

    Works Directly With: The Global Learning and Leadership Development team as well as external Learning Partners.

    Project Description

    • The People Team ensures that Mercy Corps has the people, strategies and learning opportunities that will enable it to be a world-class, cutting edge, humanitarian organization, creating transformational change in the world.
    • We do this through the recruitment, retention and development of the best global talent.
    • Our aim is to drive strategic thinking and planning at all levels of the organization; create a robust body of research to guide us internally and externally and steward the organizational culture.
    • To achieve this, we align conversations on learning; keep the organization focused on what has the greatest impact; leverage our comparative advantages in the crowded and competitive international relief and development landscape; and assure we are constantly learning from our work and the external environment.
    • The aim of the Learning & Leadership team Team is to enable our people and global organization to lead effectively, think strategically, engage collaboratively, and learn continuously.
    • The Learning and Leadership Development Intern will support our global learning and leadership development efforts with a particular focus on supporting the pilotWomen in Leadershipprogram.
    • Mercy Corps is partnering with Future Works Institute to pilot an 11 sessions (over 3 months) intensive Women in Leadership program; an online management and leadership program that complements our existing leadership programs.
    • This program is specifically aimed at supporting our incredibly talented female leaders to grow in the organization and to step into more of Mercy Corps’ senior leadership roles, specifically within our country programs.

      • First: supporting the learning activities during the live sessions, group coaching and community building activities for 30 learners including zoom set up, follow up on assignments.
      • Second: communications effort to ensure the current leadership offerings are well represented internally in fact sheets, intranet, weekly internal digest, and other channels.
      • Third: provide any necessary support for the monitoring and evaluation of the pilot including developing and analyzing surveys, conducting interviews, report development and identification of key recommendations to take forward into other programs.

    Learning Objectives

    • The intern will gain skills in leadership program design, monitoring and evaluation pilot initiatives, and learning, exposure to leadership program content including networking and management, internal communications as well as project management.
    • They will gain exposure to global non-profit organization and work with a culturally diverse team and stakeholders.
    • They will have a solid understanding of key elements of leadership programs as well as contributing factors to successful implementation.
    • They will also have exposure to different reporting and communication tools.
    • Finally, the intern may complete informational interviews with other Mercy Corps staff members working in his/her area(s) of interest, in order to increase his/her knowledge of Mercy Corps’ work in these areas.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Attend live training sessions and complete participation trackers and session follow up list
    • Maintain Women in Leadership work plan in partnership with training lead
    • Draft and implement pulse check to understand feedback from participants Development of survey and interview tools for leadership program evaluations
    • Create presentations with key report findings for different stakeholder groups
    • Draft articles for our internal newsletter and other social media content on topics related to leadership and development and the programs we have
    • Required to work outside Mercy Corps normal working hours to accommodate the global audience of participants.

    • Experience facilitating live sessions on zoom, google meets
    • Analysis and evaluation skills preferred
    • Excellent communication skills are required
    • Highly developed computer skills and strong familiarity with Microsoft Office are mandatory
    • Experience managing and developing online content is a plus.
    • Demonstrated sensitivity to a diversity of people and cultures.
