    International Comms Adviser

    About the role

    This is a new temporary post to strengthen Christian Aid’s and partners’ communications outside the UK in the run up and during COP27 -  this year’s UN climate talks. The post holder will identify opportunities and produce content for traditional and new media promoting climate justice policy and messages. It will also support others to produce high-quality  written content for mainstream and specialist media, in support of climate justice and its arguments. Working across different partners and teams in Christian Aid this role will lead on media strategies for advocacy campaigns targeting national and international key influencing moments.

    About you

    We are looking for an excellent communicator with good attention to detail with excellent knowledge of social media platforms and tactics. Your media and/or journalist experience enables you to communicate complex and technical issues in creative and simple terms, including producing newsworthy, accurate and legally sound press releases, and appropriate social media products. Your ability to take initiative, and to work independently and proactively also enables you to work effectively in different socio-cultural contexts, being a good listener, facilitator and consensus-builder. If you have deep knowledge and understanding of climate politics to counter the climate emergency and the policy issues at play, knowledge and understanding of faith based advocacy and ability to work in French, or a major African language this is also an advantage.

    Salary & Currency: The Salary and Currency for this role will be aligned to Band D-mid of the Country Payscale where the role will be based and will be offered as appropriate based on the ranges attached in the table alongside this vacancy announcement.

    Africa Advocacy Advisor- Country Support

    About the role

    As part of the Global Advocacy and Policy team in the Policy, Public Affairs and Campaigns (PPC) Department, the post-holder will support the development and implementation of national advocacy strategies across Christian Aid’s country offices in Africa. This role will support African country staff and partners to raise capacity and delivery of national advocacy in relation to our priority campaigns; as well as collaborating with them to deliver impactful global and multi-country advocacy strategies.

    This is a key role to strengthen the linkage between programmes and advocacy. Supporting the Senior Pan-Africa Advocacy Advisor and the Global Advocacy Lead, the post holder will help to integrate this work into our national programmes and where relevant participate in regional and international advocacy initiatives

    About you

    We are looking for a strategic thinker, with a track record of implementing successful campaign and advocacy strategies that brought about policy changes. You will need to be a great team player with proven experience of building constructive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, and of working in networks or coalitions. Experience in working with ecumenical and faith-based organisations is an advantage.
    The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the African contexts in which we work, and the ways in which our global campaigns and other priority issues apply to these contexts, including at the regional level. We are looking for a good influencer with a strong understanding of how change happens on effective advocacy and campaigning strategies, as well as with the experience of working with African civil society, on advocacy, campaigning or communications. Good knowledge in online social media campaigning, NGO programme experience, experience in managing multi-country advocacy projects, as well as the ability to speak French is also desired.
