    Deputy General Manager, Mechanical (Power Plant)

    Job Summary

    • Dangote Cement Plc is seeking a Deputy General Manager, Mechanical for its Power Plant operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical maintenance of the power plant and ensuring optimal performance and reliability of equipment.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    Electrical & Power Manager

    Job Purpose

    • The Electrical & Power Manager is accountable for the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of all High Voltage (HT) and Low Voltage (LT) electrical equipment, power generation/supply systems, and instrumentation within the facility. 
    • He ensures an uninterrupted power supply, effective maintenance of all electrical systems, and smooth functioning of utility equipment across the PP woven sacks manufacturing plant.
    • This role is responsible for minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and ensuring compliance with safety and statutory requirements.

    Duties & Responsibilities
    Power & Electrical Infrastructure Management:

    • Manage and monitor plant power distribution systems, HT/LT panels, transformers, DG sets, APFC panels, and power factor correction systems.
    • Optimize power usage to reduce energy consumption and operational costs.
    • Ensure reliable operation of UPS systems, VFDs, MCCs, and PCCs.

    Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance:

    • Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules for all electrical equipment across extrusion, lamination, circular looms, tapeline, printing, and stitching sections.
    • Troubleshoot electrical breakdowns to minimize machine stoppage time.
    • Maintain logs and reports for machine downtime and corrective actions.

    Utility Management:

    • Oversee DG sets, compressors, chillers, cooling towers, and other utility systems.
    • Ensure availability of utilities to support continuous production.

    New Projects & Installation:

    • Lead installation and commissioning of new machines and electrical systems.
    • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers during project execution.
    • Evaluate electrical load requirements for plant expansions or modifications.

    Safety, Compliance & Documentation:

    • Ensure all electrical systems comply with statutory regulations and industrial standards.
    • Implement electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and risk assessments.
    • Maintain documentation for inspections, audits, and compliance certifications.

    Team Leadership:

    • Manage and guide the electrical maintenance team (engineers, technicians, operators).

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Education: Higher Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

    Extrusion Manager

    Job Purpose

    • The Extrusion Manager is responsible for leading and managing the extrusion department to ensure the efficient, safe, and high-quality production of PP tapes used for DPL sacks.
    • The role includes managing manpower, ensuring product quality, reducing waste, maintaining machines, and coordinating with weaving, lamination, and quality departments to ensure smooth production flow.

    Duties & Reponsibilities
    Production & Process Management:

    • Plan, schedule, and monitor daily extrusion production activities to meet output targets.
    • Oversee the operation of tape extrusion lines, including Lamination/Coating lines if applicable.
    • Optimize extrusion parameters (temperature, L/D ratio, die gap, quench, stretching ratios, winders) to ensure consistent tape quality.
    • Monitor raw material consumption (PP, HDPE, additives, masterbatch) and ensure optimal usage and mixing ratios.
    • Ensure smooth flow of materials from compounding to winding and onward to weaving.

    Quality Control:

    • Maintain quality standards for tensile strength, elongation, denier consistency, shrinkage, and tape uniformity.
    • Coordinate with the QA team to address quality deviations and implement corrective actions.
    • Conduct root-cause analysis for defects such as tape breakage, inconsistent denier, melt flow issues, and color variations.

    Manpower & Team Leadership:

    • Supervise extrusion operators, helpers, and shift-in-charge staff.
    • Conduct training on machine operation, safety, and productivity improvement.
    • Ensure proper shift handovers and performance management of team members.

    Machine Maintenance & Upkeep:

    • Coordinate with the maintenance team for preventive and breakdown maintenance of extrusion lines.
    • Ensure proper condition of dies, heaters, godets, chill rollers, T-Die, stretching units, AC motors/inverters, and winding systems.
    • Maintain spare parts inventory (heaters, thermocouples, filters, blades, bearings, etc.).

    Productivity & Cost Control:

    • Drive initiatives to reduce wastage, power consumption, and downtime.
    • Track KPIs such as output kg/hr, waste %, tape breakage rate, and energy usage.
    • Implement lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

    Documentation & Compliance:

    • Maintain production logs, shift reports, material tracking sheets, and downtime analyses.
    • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory guidelines.
    • Support ISO, GMP, or other audits as applicable.

    Job Requirements

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
    • Experience: 5-12 years of progressive experience in PP woven sacks industry, with at least 2 - 5 years in an extrusion supervisory or managerial role. Added Advantage: Hands-on experience with high-speed extrusion/tape lines
    • Technical Knowledge: Proven expertise in the operation, maintenance, and process optimization of modern PP Tape Extrusion lines.

    Competencies:

    • In-depth knowledge of PP extrusion process, polymers, additives, and tape production.
    • Strong understanding of extrusion machinery (Lohia, Starlinger, Yongming, etc.).
    • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in process and machine issues.
    • Ability to lead and motivate a large team across multiple shifts.
    • Strong analytical, planning, and communication skills.
    • Familiarity with lean, 5S, and Kaizen practices is a plus.

    Head of Quality Assurance (QA)

    Job Purpose

    • The Head of Quality Assurance (QA) oversees the complete quality management system for DPL production operations, ensuring all products meet internal specifications, customer requirements, and statutory/regulatory standards.
    • The role includes establishing quality procedures, leading the QA team, ensuring process control at all stages (tape line, weaving, extrusion coating/lamination, printing, automatic cutting/stitching), and driving continuous improvement.

    Duties & Responsibilities
    Quality Strategy & Leadership:

    • Develop and implement the overall quality strategy and quality management system (QMS).
    • Establish quality KPIs, benchmarks, and performance standards for all production departments.
    • Lead, mentor, and train the QA/QC team to maintain strong quality culture across the plant.

    Quality Planning & Process Control:

    • Set testing standards and inspection protocols for raw materials (PP/HDPE granules, masterbatch, additives), in-process materials (tape, fabric), and finished goods.
    • Ensure strict process control in tape extrusion, weaving, lamination/coating, printing, and conversion.
    • Approve process parameters and ensure adherence to SOPs and work instructions.

    Product Quality & Compliance:

    • Ensure products meet customer specifications related to GSM, denier, tensile strength, elongation, coating adhesion, UV stability, fabric width, lamination quality, printing quality, and stitching.
    • Conduct root-cause analysis for quality failures and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
    • Maintain compliance with ISO standards (ISO 9001) and other industry certifications.

    Customer Interface & Complaint Handling:

    • Communicate with customers regarding quality issues, specifications, approvals, and audits.
    • Investigate customer complaints, generate reports, and ensure timely resolution.
    • Provide product improvement recommendations based on feedback and testing results.

    Testing & Documentation:

    • Oversee laboratory operations, including tensile test machines, GSM testers, UV test chambers, coating adhesion testers, and other equipment.
    • Maintain all quality documentation, including COAs, test reports, SOPs, calibration records, audit reports, and compliance data.
    • Ensure all instruments are calibrated and maintained per standards.

    Continuous Improvement:

    • Drive quality improvement initiatives to reduce rejection rates, wastage, and customer complaints.
    • Implement Six Sigma/Lean methodologies where applicable.
    • Support the development of new products and improvement in product performance.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with production, maintenance, R&D, procurement, and supply chain teams.
    • Approve new suppliers for raw materials after evaluation and testing.
    • Participate in trials for new materials, processes, and machinery.

    Job Requirements
    Education:

    • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Polymer Engineering, Textile Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. 
    • A Master’s degree is a plus. 

    Experience:

    • Minimum requirement: 10–15+ years of progressive QA experience in PP woven sacks, flexible packaging, or polymer extrusion. 
    • Familiar with ISO 9001, quality audits, and customer approval processes.

    Added Advantage: 

    • Strong understanding of tape line technology, circular loom operations, lamination/coating, flexographic printing, and stitching processes.
    • Hands-on experience with quality tools (FMEA, SPC, MSA, 5-Why, Fishbone, CAPA, Root Cause Analysis).

    Executive Assistant

    Job Purpose

    • The Executive Assistant (EA) to the MD/CEO will provide high-level administrative, operational, and strategic support to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the executive office. The EA will act as a trusted partner to the MD/CEO, managing daily schedules, coordinating internal and external communications, and supporting key business initiatives.

    External Relations:

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
    • Added Advantage: Additional certification in Office Administration, Executive Support, or Project Management will be an advantage
    • Experience: 5 - 8 years of of progressive experience as an Executive Assistant, Personal Assistant, or Office Manager supporting senior leadership.
    • Prior experience in a manufacturing, packaging, or FMCG environment is highly desirable.
