    Consultant Anaesthesiologist

    Job Summary

    • We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and patient-centred Consultant Anaesthesiologist to join our multidisciplinary team.
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for providing safe, high-quality anaesthesia services for surgical, obstetric, gynaecological, and other medical procedures, while ensuring comprehensive perioperative patient care through pre-operative assessment, patient education, intraoperative management, and post-operative follow-up.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct comprehensive pre-anaesthetic evaluations to determine patients' suitability for anaesthesia and identify potential risks.
    • Consult with patients and their families, explaining anaesthetic options, associated risks, benefits, and obtaining informed consent.
    • Develop and implement appropriate anaesthetic plans based on patients' medical history, clinical condition, and the planned procedure.
    • Administer general, regional, spinal, epidural, sedation, and local anaesthesia as clinically indicated.
    • Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and physiological status before, during, and after procedures, intervening promptly where necessary.
    • Manage patients' airways and respond effectively to medical emergencies, including resuscitation and life-support situations.
    • Provide post-operative care, including pain management and monitoring patients' recovery from anaesthesia.
    • Collaborate closely with surgeons, obstetricians, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
    • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of anaesthetic assessments, procedures, medications, and patient outcomes.
    • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) regulations.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
    • Fellowship in Anaesthesia (FWACS, FMCA, or an equivalent recognised qualification).
    • Full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) with a current practising licence.
    • 3 – 5 years' post-fellowship experience in a reputable healthcare institution is an added advantage.
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is an added advantage.

    Required Competencies:

    • Excellent clinical and diagnostic skills.
    • Strong knowledge of modern anaesthetic techniques and perioperative patient management.
    • Competence in airway management, critical care, and emergency response.
    • Excellent communication, counselling, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to make sound clinical decisions under pressure.
    • High level of professionalism, empathy, and patient-centred care.
    • Strong organisational and documentation skills.
    • Commitment to delivering safe, high-quality healthcare services.
