    Fiber Backhaul Engineer

    Job Purpose

    The Fiber Backhaul Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of backhaul network infrastructure (especially fiber optic systems). This role ensures high-capacity, high-reliability connectivity between core network nodes and access points, enabling seamless data traffic flow for customers across Hoop Telecoms’ network footprint.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Plan and design fiber backhaul routes, ensuring capacity, redundancy, and resilience.
    • Perform site surveys, fiber route analysis, and feasibility studies.
    • Oversee fiber splicing, termination, testing, and commissioning activities.
    • Use OTDR and other test equipment to validate fiber integrity and performance.
    • Troubleshoot and rectify fiber impairments (attenuation, bends, breaks, etc.).
    • Maintain documentation: fiber maps, network diagrams, test results, OTDR traces.
    • Coordinate with field teams (installation, maintenance) and third-party contractors.
    • Support implementation of fiber upgrades and network expansions.
    • Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry best practices.
    • Train junior field engineers and technicians in backhaul processes and tools.
    • Conduct root cause analysis on recurring faults and propose mitigation plans.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
    • Minimum of 3–6years’ experience in fiber network design and maintenance.
    • Strong knowledge of DWDM, CWDM, SONET/SDH, and fiber transmission standards.
    • Proficient with fiber testing tools (OTDR, power meter, visual fault locator).
    • Solid understanding of network protocols and backhaul requirements (IP/MPLS).
    • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong technical documentation capability.
    • Certifications (desirable): Fiber Optics certification (CFOT), CCNA/CCNP, ISP.

    Network Operating Center (NOC) Engineer

    Job Purpose

    The Network Operating Centre (NOC) Engineer is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting the company’s network infrastructure to ensure maximum performance and uptime. The role focuses on proactive fault detection, incident response, network optimization, and escalation management within the NOC.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Monitor network systems (fiber, radio, IP/MPLS, core, edge, etc.) for service disruptions or performance degradation.
    • Use NMS/OSS tools to supervise uptime, capacity, alarms, thresholds, and KPIs.
    • Perform first-line diagnosis for network incidents and take corrective actions where possible.
    • Track and document all network incidents through proper ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, JIRA).
    • Coordinate fault resolution with internal teams (Field Support, Planning, Engineering).
    • Escalate issues according to established escalation paths and in line with SLA requirements.
    • Conduct routine health checks and generate daily/weekly performance reports.
    • Implement network changes under approved change control guidelines.
    • Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and logs.
    • Support service provisioning and restoration activities as needed.
    • Liaise with vendors/operators for external network support.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3–6 years’ experience in a NOC or telecom network support role.
    • Strong knowledge of networking concepts (IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, VRF, VLANs).
    • Familiarity with monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG, etc.).
    • Ability to troubleshoot network faults quickly and efficiently.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Ability to work shifts and respond to outages outside normal hours.
    • Certifications (desirable): CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA, NPTC, or equivalent.
