    Workshop Manager

    Role Description

To lead the maintenance, repair, and overall management of the company’s fleet of heavy-duty construction equipment (Excavators, Payloaders, Pavers, Batching Plants, and Trucks). The Workshop Manager is responsible for ensuring maximum fleet availability and reliability through the strategic application of modern diagnostic software and rigorous preventive maintenance protocols.

    Responsibilities

    • Fleet Maintenance & Technical Leadership: The Workshop Manager oversees all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs. You are expected to implement a data-driven maintenance culture where "Predictive Maintenance" is favored over "Reactive Repairs." This involves managing a team of mechanics, electricians, and welders, ensuring that every asset in the fleet has a digital history folder and a strictly followed preventive maintenance schedule.
    • Advanced Diagnostics & Software Integration: A core requirement of this role is the mastery of Mechanical Diagnostic Software. You will be responsible for using and training staff on specialized tools such as CAT Electronic Technician (ET), Cummins Insite, Perkins EST, and universal heavy-duty scanners. You must be able to interface with the machines' ECUs to interpret fault codes, monitor live data parameters, and perform electronic calibrations. Your focus is to eliminate "guesswork" by using software to pinpoint sensor failures, fuel system issues, and hydraulic pressures, thereby reducing repair time and costs.
    • Resource & Inventory Management: You will manage the workshop budget and inventory, ensuring that critical spare parts and lubricants are always in stock. This includes vetting suppliers for quality and negotiating prices to ensure cost-effectiveness. You are responsible for the reconciliation of spare parts issued against specific machine numbers to prevent pilferage and waste.
    • HSE, Compliance & Reporting: You must ensure the workshop operates under the highest safety standards, including proper waste oil disposal and the use of PPE. You will provide Management with weekly and monthly reports on Fleet Downtime, Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and Maintenance Cost Analysis.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
    • Minimum of 10–12 years in heavy equipment maintenance, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in using OBD-II/CAN-bus diagnostic tools and manufacturer-specific software (CAT, JCB, Cummins, etc.).
    • Expert-level understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and heavy-duty transmissions.
