Job Summary
The Operations Manager (Construction) is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all operational activities related to project execution, site management, procurement, and resource coordination. This role ensures that all construction projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of construction processes, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to build and enforce structured systems that drive efficiency, accountability, and performance across all operational units.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Site Operations Oversight
- Oversee end-to-end construction operations across all active project sites
- Ensure alignment between design intent and site execution
- Monitor project timelines, milestones, and deliverables
- Conduct regular site visits and performance reviews
- Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks proactively
Planning, Scheduling & Execution Control
- Develop and monitor project execution plans and schedules
- Ensure proper sequencing of construction activities
- Track progress against approved timelines and escalate delays
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Architects, and Site Supervisors
Budgeting, Cost Control & Financial Oversight
- Work closely with Quantity Surveyors to review BOQs and cost estimates
- Monitor project budgets and ensure strict cost control
- Prevent cost overruns through proactive planning and tracking
- Approve operational expenditures in line with company policies
Procurement & Supply Chain Management
- Oversee procurement processes for materials and services
- Ensure timely sourcing and delivery of construction materials
- Evaluate and manage vendors, suppliers, and contractors
- Implement structured procurement and inventory systems
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all construction activities meet quality standards and specifications
- Enforce compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and company policies
- Implement quality control procedures across all projects
- Conduct periodic audits and inspections
Process Development & Operational Efficiency
- Design and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operations
- Drive process standardization across sites and departments
- Identify inefficiencies and implement improvement strategies
- Introduce systems for tracking performance and reporting
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Supervise and coordinate operational teams across multiple sites
- Ensure clear role definition and accountability for all team members
- Provide leadership, direction, and performance management
- Foster a culture of discipline, structure, and high performance
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
- Prepare and present operational reports to management
- Provide updates on project progress, risks, and financial performance
- Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic decisions
- Maintain strong communication across all departments
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Technology, or related field
- Minimum of 5–8 years experience in construction operations or project management
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, site management, and project execution
- Proven experience managing multiple construction projects simultaneously
- Strong understanding of budgeting, procurement, and cost control
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools
- Knowledge of Nigerian construction regulations and standards
