Role Overview

• Under the supervision of the HOD Judicial Certified Translations & Interpretation, the incumbent shall perform all assigned translation work for the Court from French and or Portuguese into English.

Role and Responsibilities

• Perform translation services as assigned by the supervisor and or other members of the staff.
• Provide translation in relevant language combinations.
• Routinely perform assigned Translation of official documents for judges and staff members as required.
• Assists the Head of Division, as appropriate, in screening, training, and conducting examinations for prospective translators.
• Participates in the establishment of terminology database, compilation of glossaries etc.
• Assists in the supervision of trainee translators.
• Language combination: English A, French B and Portuguese C will be an added advantage.
• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor

Academic Qualifications and Experience
Educational Qualification:

• Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in translation or equivalent from a university from a recognized university.

Experience:

• 7 years of experience in translation and revision (at least 2 of which should have been revision experience), and use of relevant computer software, electronic tools and databases.
• Excellent writing and analytical skills; high standards of accuracy, consistency and faithfulness to the style and nuances of the original text;
• Familiarity with computer-assisted translation tools, machine translation tools, and on-screen editing tools.
• Proven expertise in using relevant computer-assisted translation (CAT) software and tools, machine translation systems, and on-screen editing software.
• Language combination: English A, French B (Knowledge in Portuguese C will be an added advantage)

Eligibility:

• Must be a citizen of an ECOWAS Member State.
• Must not be more than 50 years of age at the time of recruitment. This does not apply to internal candidates.

Annual Basic Salary
USD 44,965.64 / USD 52,379.70
