    Tower Crane Operator

    Job Purpose

    • The Tower Crane Operator is responsible for operating a stationary or traveling tower crane to lift, move, position, and reposition structural frameworks, heavy equipment, pipes, and bulk materials within a complex oil and gas construction yard or facility site.
    • The role demands absolute precision, a strict adherence to international lifting standards, and an uncompromised commitment to safety protocol to prevent accidents in high-risk environments.

    Key Responsibilities
    Safe Lifting Operations:

    • Operate tower crane controls safely and efficiently to lift, swing, and lower heavy loads across high-elevation industrial and offshore structures.
    • Execute all lifting activities in strict accordance with the approved Lifting Plan and manufacturer instructions.
    • Maintain constant and crystal-clear radio communication and hand signals with the Riggers, Banksmen, and Lifting Supervisors on the ground.

    Pre-Operational Inspections & Maintenance:

    • Conduct mandatory daily and pre-shift inspections of the crane, including cabin controls, brakes, wire ropes, hooks, limit switches, and structural anchors.
    • Monitor critical safety instruments such as Load Moment Indicators (LMI), wind speed anemometers, and anti-collision systems.
    • Log inspection results daily and immediately isolate (lockout/tagout) and report any mechanical or electrical faults to the maintenance team.

    Environmental & Load Monitoring:

    • Accurately calculate crane capacities and weight factors before initiating any lift to ensure parameters never exceed safe working loads (SWL).
    • Continuously evaluate weather conditions, particularly wind speeds and visibility, and shut down operations immediately if thresholds violate safety limits.

    HSE Compliance & Documentation:

    • Strictly adhere to site-specific Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) rules, Permitted Work systems (PTW), and industrial oil & gas safety codes.
    • Participate in daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and Job Safety Analyses (JSA) prior to critical or complex lifts.

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Zero Incidents: Maintain a 100% accident-free, injury-free, and damage-free lifting record.
    • Equipment Uptime: Ensuring routine daily checks prevent unnecessary machine breakdown delays.
    • Precision and Speed: Completing planned lifts within the specified construction timeline without compromising safety margins.

    Job Requirements & Qualifications
    Experience & Licensing:

    • Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma, Technical School graduate, or equivalent vocational training.
    • Certification: Valid, industry-recognized Crane Operator License (e.g., NCCO, CITB, or equivalent local regulatory certificate).
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of active experience operating tower cranes, with at least 2–3 years specifically in large-scale oil & gas infrastructure projects or heavy industrial construction sites.

    Technical Skills:

    • Complete mastery of crane hand signals, rigging configurations, and load chart interpretations.
    • Extensive experience reading and working with electronic safety indicators (LMI systems).
    • Thorough understanding of structural steel erection, heavy piping installation, and concrete pouring logistics.

    Physical & Soft Skills:

    • Excellent depth perception, spatial awareness, and manual dexterity.
    • Absolute comfort working at extreme heights for prolonged periods.
    • Calm under pressure; ability to make sharp, safe judgments during high-risk maneuvers.

    Working Conditions:

    • This position involves working at high elevations inside a crane cabin.
    • The operator will be exposed to varied outdoor weather conditions (heat, wind, rain) typical of heavy industrial zones and marine shipyards.
