    Technical Underwriter

    Department: Underwriting
    Reports To: Head, Technical Underwriting
    Direct Reports: None
    Duration: Continuous

    Job Purpose

    • To analyse risk in insurance proposals, determine policy terms and calculate premiums on the basis of actuarial, statistical, and background information.

    Job Duties

    • Ensure that the standard insurance business placement processes through claims processing are followed religiously
    • Study the Insured line of business to determine associated risk types and likely Policies
    • Study and Review Insurance proposals and seek to improve terms
    • Properly Assess and analyze prospective Insured background information
    • Schedule meetings with Insurers to determine risk assessment in unique circumstances
    • Layout and finalize insurance policies applying specific terms and conditions as agreed upon by the Insured
    • Liaise with the Insurers to determine the premium due based upon informed judgment, competitors and market pricing
    • Ensure that premiums are competitive and that accounts remain profitable
    • Review insurance claims and terms 
    • Review policies and help with policy wording ensuring that the Insured is properly protected
    • Keep detailed and accurate records of policies underwritten and decisions made.
    • Review of Tenders/EOI to ensure compliance with tender requirements 
    • Prepare all regulatory returns (Monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and yearly) as far as it concerns Technical department
    • Review all policy documents/endorsement and post-placement report on Insured insurance programs

    Person Specification & Additional Requirements

    • Minimum of 5 years of work experience
    • Excellent calculation and statistics skill
    • Attention to detail and analytics skills
    • Verbal and written communication skills
    • Negotiation and interpersonal skills
    • Must be very tech-savvy.
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Excellent communication and people management skills are compulsory
    • Ability to use sound judgment.
