    Technical/Mechanical Design Engineer

The Technical/Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, modeling, and engineering armour solutions for vehicles, structures, and protective systems. This role focuses on creating accurate 2D/3D designs, integrating armour materials, ensuring manufacturability, and supporting the entire product lifecycle—from concept through production. The engineer works closely with R&D, production, procurement, and quality teams to deliver high-performance ballistic and blast-resistant products.

    Key Responsibilities

    Armour Design & Engineering

    • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings for armour components, ballistic panels, glass assemblies, and structural reinforcements.
    • Create armour kits tailored to specific vehicles or structures, ensuring accurate fit, material optimization, and threat-level compliance.
    • Integrate armour materials (steel, composites, ceramics, ballistic glass) into existing vehicle architectures without compromising functionality or aesthetics.
    • Perform technical calculations and design evaluations for strength, weight, and ballistic performance.

    CAD Modelling & Documentation

    • Use CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, AutoCAD or similar) to produce detailed, production-ready drawings.
    • Maintain drawing revisions, engineering change requests (ECR), and bill of materials (BOMs).
    • Ensure designs adhere to internal engineering standards and quality requirements.

    Collaboration & Technical Support

    • Work with production engineers and technicians to ensure designs are manufacturable, efficient, and cost-effective.
    • Support installation teams by providing clear instructions, drawings, and troubleshooting assistance.
    • Collaborate with R&D teams to incorporate new materials, technologies, and design improvements.
    • Liaise with procurement to define material specifications and assist in evaluating new suppliers.

    Testing & Validation

    • Participate in prototype builds, fit-up testing, and design validation activities.
    • Assist in ballistic and environmental testing by preparing test designs, documentation, and data analysis.
    • Implement design changes based on testing results, field feedback, and customer requirements.

    Compliance & Standards

    • Ensure designs comply with relevant ballistic and blast standards such as NIJ, STANAG, VPAM, EN 1063/1522.
    • Follow company safety, quality, and engineering protocols throughout the design process.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
    • 2–4+ years of experience in armouring, defence manufacturing, vehicle design, or similar engineering environments.
    • Proficiency in CAD design software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, AutoCAD, etc.).
    • Understanding of ballistic materials, armour design principles, and vehicle structures preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (cutting, bending, welding, composites, assembly).
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and engineering specifications.

    Key Competencies

    • Strong mechanical design skills
    • Technical accuracy and attention to detail
    • Knowledge of armour materials and protection systems (preferred)
    • Problem-solving and analytical thinking
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-security environment
    • Good communication and teamwork skills
    • Adaptability and continuous improvement mindset
