    Staff Physician

    Job Description

    • We are looking for an experienced Consultant Clinician to work as Staff Physician based at our main site at Fajara. 
    • The post-holder will join a team of consultants supporting the Head of Clinical Services who is responsible for the Unit's Clinical Services at the main station at Fajara and the upcountry Field Stations with overall responsibility for the health care of all MRCG at LSHTM staff (approximately 1500) and their immediate families
    • The Staff clinic is embedded in the wider clinical services, with a well-resourced clinic and ward, and excellent on-site diagnostics. There are satellite clinics at the Unit's Field Stations. The Fajara clinic provides some limited service to private patients.
    • The post-holder will also support Medical Officers in the out-patients and on the ward in the development and training of clinicians, clinical support staff, students from the University of The Gambia Medical School or other medical schools with whom we have a memorandum of understanding

    Essential Requirements

    • MB BS or equivalent Medical qualification
    • FWACP in Family Medicine / or equivalent (FMCFM, FGCPS {Fam, Med}) / MRCGP / CCT in General
    • Practice or equivalent.
    • Experience of managing inpatients at a senior level (senior resident or consultant)
    • Excellent written and spoken English
    • Excellent organisational skills
    • Proven experience of managing staff
    • Excellent record keeping skills
    • Good understanding of medical audits and experience of quality improvement.
    • The ability to deal sensitively with patients
    • The willingness to work on an on-call rota on a regular basis
    • The willingness to work flexi-time
    • Computer literate e.g Word Excel Email mobile apps

    Desirable:

    • Significant experience working in high-quality teaching institutions
    • Experience of working in occupational health
    • Advanced life support provider

    Condition of Service and Salary

    • The appointment is for 3 years initially and subject to a probationary period of 6 months
    • The salary will be paid in Grade 2, 36 Points of MRCG at LSHTM's payscale at a minimum net monthly salary of Dalasis117,668. This converts to a take home pay of $2, 353 approximately per month using the prevailing Dalasi/USD exchange rate.
    • For displaced staff, the package will include rent-free furnished accommodation, flights, displacement allowance for spouse and children, contribution to school fees for children and shipment of personal effects.
    • Please note that the salary will be paid in Dalasi and the USD figure is only given as a guide.
