Senior People Safety & Health Officer - Lagos at Qatar Airways

• As a Senior People Safety and Health Officer, you will be responsible for providing assistance and guidance on matters relating to Health and Safety, thus championing and promoting health and safety throughout Qatar Airways Group. You will manage occurrences related to QR Group Staff and Customers on Ground, track trends and report any finding as required as well as overseeing the implementation of Qatar Airways OHS Manual and Policy across the Qatar Airways Group with the objective of making Qatar Airways Occupational Health and Safety Management System a success.

Specific Responsibilities For The Role Include:

• Liaise with QR Group outstation stakeholders to ensure compliance with the applicable national and/or state/regional OHS requirements.
• Participate in the recommendation of changes in policies, procedures and working practices, help monitor the review and revision of H&S policies & procedures to ensure continued compliance with all legal and other relevant requirements.
• Facilitate the implementation of the QR OHS Manual standards and procedures into Qatar Airways Group operations ensuring compliance with regulatory OHS requirements.
• Assist with staff and customer incidents’ related reports to ensure that the appropriate actions are taken to prevent reoccurrence.
• Ensure the effective development and implementation of campaigns within Qatar Airways to reduce incidents and injuries to Qatar Airways Group staff and passengers across the business.
• Participate in the investigation of incidents and accidents related to Qatar Airways Group Staff and Customers on Ground.
• Assist line manager in the development, implementation and periodic review of OHS risk assessments (including fire risk assessments) for QR Group Outstation commercial locations.
• Conduct health and safety inspections and audits throughout QR Group Outstation commercial locations to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with ISO 45001 OHSMS standards. Make recommendations for controls to the appropriate department for implementation and follow up to validate the effectiveness of the controls.
• Support, develop, implement and review emergency procedures and action plans for QR Group Outstation commercial locations which will include fire evacuation procedures at a minimum.
• Review and action the OHS evaluation of Permit-to-Work (PTW) requests for QR Group Outstation commercial locations and ensure that all high-risk activities meet the relevant safety requirements for work-at-height, hot work etc. as per the applicable national and/or state/regional regulatory OHS requirements.

Qualifications

About you

The successful candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:

• Relevant College or University qualifications with minimum 5 years of job-related experience.
• NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent.
• ISO 45001 auditing qualifications and any mandatory local OHS qualifications required by the law.
• Strong Knowledge of national and international Occupational Health and Safety laws and international best practices.
• Possess a critical and analytic mind with a view to standardize procedures attributed to safety of Operations.
• Requires strong interpersonal and investigative skills, and conflict resolution abilities with a strong command for details.
• Excellent data analysis and presentation skills.
• Fluency in both spoken and written Native and English and capable of writing clear factual reports to a very high Standard.
• Highly desirable proficiency in French and Arabic language.
• Project Management and planning skills.
