    Senior Financial Accountant

    Role Summary:

    • The Senior Financial Accountant will play a pivotal role in supporting the Finance Lead in delivering robust financial reporting, project-based financial management, and forward-looking financial planning across the Company’s oil & gas and marine operations. The role requires strong technical capability in IFRS-compliant reporting, project finance accounting, and financial planning & analysis (FP&A), with direct responsibility for tracking project economics, monitoring contract performance, and supporting capital-intensive investments (e.g., vessels, offshore infrastructure, and energy assets).

    Job Responsibilities:

    Financial Reporting & Close:

    • Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate recognition of revenue (contract-based / milestone / IFRS 15), project costs and accruals, and capital expenditure (CapEx) and asset capitalization.
    • Prepare management accounts and statutory financial statements aligned with IFRS and industry-specific accounting treatments.
    • Maintain detailed project-level financial reporting for marine and energy contracts.
    • Prepare and maintain GLs, Trial Balance, and annual financial reports.

    Project Finance & Cost Control:

    • Track and monitor project financial performance, including budget vs actual cost analysis, contract profitability and margin tracking, and cost-to-complete and forecast revisions.
    • Support financial oversight of marine assets (vessels), offshore operations, and infrastructure investments.
    • Work closely with operations to ensure accurate cost allocation and cost recovery mechanisms.
    • Conduct financial performance analysis including cost per operating day and profitability metrics.
    • Support commercial evaluations of contract pricing and operational decisions.

    Budgeting & Forecasting (FP&A):

    • Develop and maintain financial models for projects and investments, including cash flow projections, NPV, IRR, and payback analysis, and scenario and sensitivity analysis (FX, oil prices, cost escalation).
    • Prepare annual budgets and rolling forecasts, incorporating project pipelines, contract timelines, and funding requirements.
    • Monitor budget utilization and highlight deviations or cost overruns.
    • Provide forward-looking insights to support strategic decision-making and capital allocation.
    • Support long-term financial planning for asset acquisitions, upgrades, and capital projects.

    Treasury, Liquidity & Funding Support:

    • Monitor project and corporate cash flows, ensuring alignment with CapEx schedules, debt servicing obligations, and operational funding needs.
    • Support working capital optimization, particularly receivables from contracts and payables to vendors and contractors.
    • Assist in managing banking relationships, funding structures, and drawdown schedules for project financing.
    • Prepare receivables and payables reports and conduct reconciliations.

    Asset & CAPEX Accounting:

    • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules for marine and energy assets.
    • Account for major repairs, dry-docking, and capitalized asset costs.
    • Support evaluation of asset impairment and valuation when required.
    • Ensure integrity of the general ledger including balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, provisions, and adjustments.

    Invoicing & Payment Management:

    • Timely preparation of invoices for services, charter hires, and projects.
    • Review and verify vendor invoices, delivery notes, and service completion certificates.
    • Process payments, ensuring compliance with internal approval matrix and banking procedures.
    • Coordinate with procurement and technical teams to ensure proper documentation for payments.

    Audit, Compliance & Regulatory Reporting:

    • Coordinate external and internal audits, ensuring readiness of project schedules, supporting documentation, and financial disclosures.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., NUPRC, NCDMB, NIMASA) and financial reporting standards.
    • Support compliance with tax obligations (VAT, WHT, CIT) and industry-specific levies (e.g., NCDF, Cabotage).
    • Strengthen and enforce internal control frameworks, particularly around project expenditure, procurement, and vendor payments.

    Performance Monitoring & Business Partnering:

    • Provide financial performance dashboards for management, including project profitability, cost efficiency metrics, and liquidity indicators.
    • Act as a finance business partner to operations, commercial, and project teams.
    • Support evaluation of new business opportunities, bids, and tenders with financial input.
    • Provide direct support to the Finance Lead in strategic planning, capital allocation decisions, and investor/lender reporting.

    Process Improvement & Systems:

    • Identify inefficiencies in financial reporting, project tracking, and data management systems.
    • Support implementation of automation tools and financial systems to enhance reporting accuracy and speed.
    • Improve data integrity and reporting standardisation across projects.

    Experience & Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. ICAN, ACCA, CIMA) is required or strongly preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ cognate finance experience, preferably within oil & gas, energy, marine, or infrastructure operations.
    • Solid working knowledge of IFRS and management accounting principles.
    • Hands-on experience with accounting software and financial systems.
    • Experience in project finance accounting is a strong advantage.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong knowledge of IFRS and project-based accounting principles.
    • Advanced financial modelling and Excel skills (NPV, IRR, scenario analysis).
    • Strong analytical and financial reporting capability, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
    • Understanding of FX exposure, funding structures, and capital-intensive operations.
    • Proficiency in MS Excel, Power BI, and accounting software.
    • Ability to manage reconciliations across vendor and project accounts with minimal error.
    • Capacity to work independently, prioritise effectively, and meet tight reporting deadlines.
    • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills across technical, operations, and commercial teams.
    • High attention to detail with a strong compliance and audit orientation.
