    Post-Doctoral Researcher

    Location: Fajara, The Gambia
    Grade: 2, 35.

    Job Information     

    • The MRCG at LSHTM is seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Researcher with excellent immunology skills to be based at Fajara.
    • The post-holder will conduct, manage and oversee laboratory research activities to support a childhood TB diagnostics project as well as clinical trials of novel vaccines, including for pregnant women and immuno-assays conducted during observational cohort studies.
    • This will involve optimizing novel technologies and laboratory procedures to answer research questions, provide key oversight over the laboratory aspects and to coordinate the sample processing, including shipment and storage in collaboration with the investigator network in the US and Europe.
    • It will also involve hands-on work in the laboratory together with the local team to optimize training and work-flow.

    Essential Requirements

    • PhD in Immunology or related field.
    • Excellent immunological skills.
    • Experience of creating, managing and analysing large datasets.
    • Excellent written and spoken English.
    • Good communication skills including scientific discussion and writing.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct demanding laboratory work in a productive and disciplined manner.
    • The willingness to work outside working hours.
    • The ability to work co-operatively in a diverse team.
    • The ability to supervise staff, ensuring that high standards are maintained at all times.

    Desirable:

    • Some experience of contributing to research grant applications.
    • Experience of working with international partners.

    Salary

    • The salary will be paid in Grade 2, 35 Points of MRCG at LSHTM’s payscale at a gross monthly salary of 83, 430 Dalasi. This converts to $1, 702 approximately per month using the prevailing Dalasi/USD exchange rate.
    • Please note that the salary will be paid in Dalasi and that the USD figure quoted is only given as a guide.
    • For displaced staff the package will include rent-free furnished accommodation, flights, displacement allowance for spouse and children, contribution to school fees and shipment of personal effects.
