Perioperative Nurse at Tranquil & Quest Medical and Diagnostics Limited

Job Summary:

• The Perioperative Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-focused care during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical procedures. The nurse ensures a sterile and safe surgical environment, collaborates closely with the surgical team, and supports patient recovery in accordance with the hospital's clinical standards and professional nursing practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Preoperative Duties:

• Prepare patients for surgery, including physical and emotional readiness.
• Verify surgical consent forms, medical history, allergies, and vital signs.
• Ensure accurate documentation of all preoperative assessments.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthetists, and other healthcare staff to plan perioperative care.

Intraoperative Duties:

• Set up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile field following aseptic techniques.
• Serve as scrub nurse or circulating nurse during surgery.
• Monitor patient’s condition during procedures and maintain accurate intraoperative records.
• Ensure instrument counts, safety checks, and adherence to surgical protocols.
• Support surgeons and anesthetists with technical assistance.

Postoperative Duties:

• Monitor patients in recovery rooms, assess for complications, and provide pain management.
• Communicate postoperative instructions and updates to patients and families.
• Document recovery progress and coordinate transfers to wards or ICUs.
• Participate in postoperative debriefs and audits.

Administrative & Professional Duties:

• Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
• Report incidents, near misses, or complications promptly to supervisors.
• Participate in continuing education, infection control practices, and hospital training.
• Assist in inventory control, equipment maintenance, and supply requisition for the theatre.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:

• Registered Nurse (RN) Certification from an accredited institution
• Valid practicing license with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)
• Perioperative Nursing Certification (if available) is an added advantage

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a surgical or perioperative nursing role.
• Proven experience in operating room procedures, patient safety protocols, and infection control.

Skills and Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical protocols, and patient safety
• Good teamwork, time management, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to function effectively in high-pressure environments
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of electronic health records (EHR)
