    Patient Care Assistant

    Job Summary:

    • The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides essential non-clinical and clinical support to patients and nursing staff in ensuring comfort, safety, and well-being across various departments. The PCA assists with basic care tasks, monitors patients under supervision, and supports the daily functioning of wards and units in alignment with Tranquil and Quest Specialist Hospital's standards of compassionate and quality care.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Patient Support:

    • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility.
    • Monitor patient comfort and promptly report unusual signs (e.g., discomfort, pain, behavioral changes) to nurses.
    • Transport patients safely to various departments (e.g., radiology, physiotherapy, lab).
    • Turn or reposition bedridden patients to prevent bedsores.

    Clinical Support (Under Supervision):

    • Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure).
    • Measure fluid intake/output and report results accurately.
    • Assist in collecting specimens such as urine or stool.
    • Provide basic wound care assistance under the direction of a registered nurse.

    Environment and Infection Control:

    • Maintain cleanliness of patient surroundings, beds, and personal equipment.
    • Follow infection prevention and control protocols, including hand hygiene and PPE usage.
    • Dispose of soiled linen, body fluids, and sharps according to hospital safety procedures.
    • Assist in maintaining ward supplies and report shortages.

    Communication and Teamwork:

    • Respond to patient call bells promptly and respectfully.
    • Provide emotional support and communicate empathetically with patients and relatives.
    • Collaborate with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare workers to ensure coordinated care.
    • Document patient care tasks accurately and timely in the appropriate records.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Education:
    • Minimum: Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE).
    • Preferred: Certificate or diploma in Health Care AssistancePatient Care, or Community Health from a recognized training institution.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 year experience in a hospital, nursing home, or clinical care environment.
    • Experience assisting in wards, emergency rooms, or surgical units is an advantage.

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Compassionate and respectful attitude toward patient care.
    • Basic knowledge of health, hygiene, and infection control.
    • Physical ability to assist patients and perform care tasks.
    • Effective verbal communication and the ability to follow instructions.
    • Team-oriented with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
