    Medical Officer

    Job Purpose

    • The Medical Officer will be responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic health conditions, in both inpatient and outpatient environments. This includes conducting clinical assessments, ordering and interpreting investigations, implementing treatment plans, and ensuring continuity of care under the supervision of senior medical staff.
    • The role holder will support the delivery of safe, timely, and effective healthcare in line with AMCE’s clinical protocols and performance standards; and provide high-quality patient-centred medical care across a variety of clinical settings within the hospital.

    Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

    Patient Care & Clinical Responsibilities

    • Conduct initial patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations.
    • Order and interpret diagnostic investigations (labs, imaging, etc.) as clinically indicated.
    • Formulate and implement treatment plans based on current clinical guidelines.
    • Monitor patient progress and revise management plans accordingly.
    • Perform minor procedures and assist in major procedures as required.
    • Ensure timely documentation of clinical notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
    • Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary team reviews.
    • Provide on-call support and participate in duty rosters as assigned.

    Emergency Response & Acute Care

    • Provide immediate care to patients presenting with urgent or life-threatening conditions.
    • Administer emergency treatments such as resuscitation, airway management, and stabilization.
    • Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory and imaging results in acute settings.
    • Participate in code response teams and emergency drills.

    Communication & Patient Education

    • Explain diagnoses, investigations, and treatment plans clearly to patients and their families.
    • Provide counselling and health education to promote preventive care and adherence.
    • Communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team to coordinate care.
    • Uphold patient confidentiality and ensure informed consent for all procedures.

    Clinical Governance & Quality Assurance

    • Comply with AMCE’s policies, protocols, and regulatory requirements.
    • Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality improvement activities.
    • Report clinical incidents, near misses, or safety concerns in accordance with institutional policy.

    Teaching, Research & Professional Development

    • Participate in continuing medical education and hospital-led trainings.
    • Engage in case presentations, clinical discussions, and journal clubs.
    • Contribute to clinical research activities where applicable.
    • Provide mentorship or guidance to medical students and junior colleagues.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS/MBChB) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
    • Valid license to practice medicine.
    • Registered with relevant medical regulatory authority.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification clinical experience in a hospital setting.
    • Prior exposure to both general medical and surgical cases is preferred.
    • Experience in emergency care or a multidisciplinary setting is an added advantage.
    • Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
    • Strong foundation in general medicine and surgery principles.
    • Understanding of hospital workflows and patient care protocols.
    • Awareness of current medical guidelines and best practices.
    • Basic and advanced life support (BLS/ACLS) certification is desirable
