Job Summary

A Proposed Unit Tier-1 Microfinance Bank to be situated within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) is seeking a tech-savvy, pioneering, and highly strategic Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO). 

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up the bank’s technological foundation and strategic direction. We are looking for a leader who can leverage modern fintech trends to provide superior retail and MSME banking services within the heart of the Federal Capital Territory.

Key Responsibilities

• Pre-Operational Setup: Lead and coordinate a pioneering team for effective take-off of the bank as a unique Unit Tier-1 MFB.
• Technological Leadership: Drive the adoption of cutting-edge banking technologies, including mobile banking apps, USSD platforms, and automated credit scoring systems to ensure a competitive edge.
• Market Penetration: Develop and execute a robust business entry strategy specifically tailored to the diverse commercial landscape of AMAC, including markets like Wuse, Garki, and Asokoro for growth and business sustainability.
• Digital Transformation: Implement paperless workflows and digital-first customer onboarding processes to enhance operational efficiency.
• Strategic Planning: Articulate the bank's initial 3-year strategic plan, for Board approval, focusing on financial inclusion through technology-driven delivery channels.
• Risk & Compliance: Establish a modern risk management framework that addresses both traditional credit risks and emerging cybersecurity threats.
• Team Building: Coordinate recruiting, selection and mentoring of a lean, tech-competent management team focused on innovation and high performance.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary interface between the Board of Directors, high-net-worth investors, and regulatory bodies.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Banking & Finance, Computer Science, Economics, or Business Administration. A Master’s degree or MBA is highly desirable.
• Professional Certification: Mandatory Microfinance Certification Programme (MCP) through MCIB qualification.
• Professional Membership: ACIB, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualifications are required.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years in financial services, with at least 5 years at a senior management level. Experience in a Fintech-forward MFB or digital bank is a significant advantage.
• Tech Proficiency: Advanced literacy in modern Core Banking Systems (CBS), data analytics, and digital payment ecosystems.
• Geographic Familiarity: Extensive knowledge of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) business environment and its unique regulatory and commercial dynamics is essential.
• Leadership: Proven track record of integrity, critical analytical thinking, and the ability to lead a startup through the growth phase.
