    Linesman

    Purpose of the Job

    • Responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines within the distribution network

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    The Linesman shall therefore be responsible, but not limited, for the following:

    • Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power lines and associated equipment in accordance with industry standards.
    • Execute the construction, relocation, and expansion of power lines, which includes pole climbing, rigging, and line stringing activities.
    • Respond promptly to electrical faults or outages, ensuring power restoration is done efficiently and safely.
    • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to minimise risks and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Maintain tools and equipment to ensure they are kept in good working condition.
    • Work collaboratively with team members, including engineers and technicians, to complete maintenance tasks and projects effectively.
    • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs, for reporting purposes.
    • Prepare periodic report for the attention of the Maintenance Supervisor.
    • Carrying out all other functions as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

    Minimum Educational & Professional Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

    • Minimum of a SSCE or a Diploma qualification in technical education or engineering.
    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience preferably in electrical power distribution and maintenance or a similar field
    • Knowledge of safety protocols when working on power lines and from heights.

    Attributes and Competencies

    • Sound knowledge of electric power systems and distribution networks.
    • Physical agility and stamina to perform manual labour, including pole climbing and working at heights.
    • Basic troubleshooting and repair skills for electrical systems.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
