    Junior Field Technician (Fibre)

    Install, commission, operate and maintain access and core fibre routes, Points of Presence (PoPs) and associated active and passive network infrastructure for both self-build and leased fibre networks. Function as a Level 1 technical authority on fibre network infrastructure, delivering advanced expertise in deployment, operations and maintenance (O&M), complex fault diagnostics, root cause analysis and end-to-end resolution of fibre network incidents

    Reporting Line: Field Team Leader

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Execute installation of access and core fibre optic cables in compliance with industry standards, engineering specifications and best practice deployment methodologies
    • Commission fibre spans and complete end-to-end circuit turn-ups using OTDR, OLTS, fusion splicing and advanced optical testing tools, including interpretation of results and validation of link performance against design parameters
    • Validate, update and maintain accurate as-built documentation, ensuring all network changes are properly recorded within OSS/BSS and asset management systems
    • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on fibre infrastructure, including advanced fault diagnostics, root cause analysis and full restoration of service within agreed SLAs
    • Collaborate with Project Managers, engineering teams and third-party contractors to ensure seamless execution of network designs, upgrades and expansion projects
    • Contribute to fibre network planning, capacity management, technical audits, risk assessments and lifecycle asset management activities
    • Provide cross-functional technical support and assume field leadership responsibilities for assigned projects, delivering structured progress reports
    • Ensure all network deployments, modifications and documentation accurately align with approved designs and are properly reflected in NetSuite and related enterprise systems

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Diploma (or equivalent work experience) in a technical field

    Experience and Skills

    • Minimum of 2-3 years’ progressive technical experience in the telecommunications industry, with at least 1 year dedicated to fibre optic installation, commissioning and maintenance within access and core network environments
    • Strong technical knowledge of duct infrastructure, fibre cable types, build methodologies, splice closures, patch panels and both OSP (Outside Plant) and ISP (Inside Plant) deployments
    • Demonstrated experience in quality assurance auditing, optical testing validation and proactive identification, management and mitigation of risks within the network risk register
    • Advanced hands-on experience in optical networking, including OTDR and OLTS testing, fibre characterization, splicing, cable installation and end-to-end circuit validation
    • Practical proficiency in geospatial and network documentation tools such as Google Earth, QGIS and OSS/BSS platforms for route planning, network mapping and asset tracking
    • Proven ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation and reports, supported by strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent stakeholder engagement and client communication capability, with the ability to interpret technical information and present key findings effectively
    • High level of accuracy and discipline in the use of B/OSS systems to capture, update and manage network records in a timely manner
    • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively and resolve complex technical issues in fast-paced operational environments
