Job Summary

• The Head of Health Insurance will be responsible for launching, scaling, and managing Purelife Health’s insurance business. This includes designing and deploying affordable microinsurance products, building operational and claims infrastructure, developing partnerships, and leading regulatory engagement toward HMO licensure.
• You’ll sit at the intersection of healthcare delivery, financial inclusion, and product innovation—translating Purelife’s ecosystem of services into insurable, high-retention health plans that drive value for both patients and the business.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Business Development (30%)

• Design and launch microinsurance products tailored to low- and middle-income populations
• Leverage existing Purelife services (e.g., pharmacy, diagnostics, telehealth) as in-network benefits
• Test bundled care packages and employer/association models to drive adoption
• Oversee pricing, benefits design, and risk-sharing mechanisms in partnership with actuarial support

Strategy & Scale Planning (25%)

• Define the roadmap to becoming a fully licensed Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO)
• Develop a long-term business model for sustainable, scalable insurance operations
• Identify and prioritise underserved market segments (e.g., SMEs, gig workers, informal sector)
• Analyse claims, utilisation, and behavioural data to inform growth and product iterations

Regulatory & Compliance Management (20%)

• Lead the regulatory application and compliance process for HMO licensing
• Build systems to ensure adherence to NHIS/NHIA and state-level insurance frameworks
• Liaise with relevant authorities and represent Purelife in regulatory and industry engagements

Partnerships & Distribution (15%)

• Establish distribution partnerships with employers, cooperatives, aggregators, and digital platforms
• Negotiate with underwriters or reinsurance partners as needed for early-stage products
• Explore integration opportunities with fintechs, wallets, or BNPL providers to simplify premiums

Cross-functional Leadership (10%)

• Collaborate with the COO, Technology Lead, and clinical teams to integrate insurance seamlessly into Purelife’s ecosystem
• Manage a growing team across operations, claims, customer support, and compliance
• Set and track KPIs for enrolment, retention, claims ratio, and profitability

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Business, or Public Health; Master’s preferred
• 7+ years experience in health insurance, microinsurance, or HMO operations
• Strong understanding of Nigeria’s health insurance regulatory and policy environment
• Experience designing and launching consumer-facing insurance or health financing products
• Demonstrated ability to balance innovation with regulatory compliance
• Strong partnerships, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills
• Bonus: Familiarity with digital health platforms, claims automation, or alternative financing models
• Exposure to reinsurance contract structuring and risk layering
• Prior involvement in building underwriting logic for bundled health services
• Use of CRM tools or customer engagement platforms to track policyholder journeys
