    Health and Safety Officer (Maritime)

    Position Summary:

    We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Health and Safety Officer with proven experience in the maritime environment to join our team in Escravos. This individual will be responsible for implementing, managing, and improving health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with both regulatory standards and company guidelines. The successful candidate will play a critical role in safeguarding the health, safety, and well-being of all personnel and contractors, particularly in a challenging offshore and maritime setting.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Safety Policy Implementation:

    • Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive health and safety policies tailored to the maritime environment.
    • Ensure all operations comply with local, national, and international maritime safety regulations, including IMO, ISM Code, MARPOL, and SOLAS standards.

    Risk Assessment and Management:

    • Conduct risk assessments for offshore and maritime operations to identify potential hazards.
    • Develop risk mitigation strategies and ensure their efficient implementation.
    • Provide recommendations to improve health and safety protocols for high-risk offshore environments.

    Audits and Inspections:

    • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and drills aboard vessels, docks, and offshore facilities.
    • Ensure compliance with safety standards and identify areas needing improvement.

    Emergency Preparedness:

    • Develop and update emergency response plans for maritime incidents, oil spills, or other hazards.
    • Oversee the training of personnel in emergency response procedures, including evacuation, firefighting, and first aid.

    Training and Awareness:

    • Conduct safety training programs for all employees and contractors working in the Escravos operations.
    • Promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance among all personnel.

    Incident Management and Reporting:

    • Investigate safety incidents, accidents, or hazards, especially in maritime settings, and prepare detailed reports.
    • Recommend corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
    • Maintain proper documentation of all safety-related activities and generate periodic compliance reports.

    Collaboration and Monitoring:

    • Work closely with operational teams, captains, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure safe practices in all aspects of maritime operations.
    • Monitor safety equipment aboard vessels and ensure they are maintained and operational.

    Environmental Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with environmental laws and guidelines, especially concerning waste management, oil pollution prevention, and emissions control in the maritime industry.
    • Support sustainability initiatives aligned with corporate goals.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Health and Safety Officer in the maritime sector, including experience onboard vessels, offshore platforms, or similar environments.
    • Familiarity with Escravos or similar offshore oil and gas operations is a plus.

    Education and Certification:

    • Bachelor\'s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
    • Professional certification in HSE is an added advantage

    Skills:

    • In-depth knowledge of maritime safety standards (ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.).
    • Strong communication and leadership skills.
    • Ability to work in remote, high-pressure, and challenging conditions.
    • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.

    Other Requirements:

    • Willingness to work in Escravos and travel offshore as needed.
    • Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.

    SALARY EXPECTATION N300,000- N400,000
