Position Summary
The Health and Nutrition Assistant (Volunteer) will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of health and nutrition activities within the community. The volunteer will assist in promoting proper nutrition practices, hygiene education, and community mobilization to improve overall public health outcomes.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about public health, nutrition, and community engagement who want to gain practical experience in humanitarian and development work.
Specific Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of community health and nutrition activities under the supervision of the Health and Nutrition Officer or Program Coordinator.
- Conduct community sensitization on essential nutrition practices, hygiene promotion, and disease prevention.
- Assist in organizing nutrition screening sessions for children under five, pregnant, and lactating women.
- Help collect and compile data from community outreach activities for reporting and analysis.
- Support awareness campaigns on maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH).
- Distribute health education materials and demonstrate appropriate use of nutrition supplements (if applicable).
- Work closely with local health workers to identify and refer malnourished or at-risk individuals for further support.
- Maintain accurate records of health and nutrition activities and ensure timely reporting.
- Participate in regular team meetings and community feedback sessions.
- Promote gender sensitivity and inclusion in all program activities.
Areas of Accountability
The Health and Nutrition Assistant (Volunteer) will be accountable for:
- Program Implementation: Ensuring all assigned health and nutrition activities are conducted in line with the organization’s work plan and standards.
- Data and Reporting: Accurately collecting and submitting data to supervisors for review and reporting.
- Community Engagement: Representing GAEFI positively in all community interactions.
- Code of Conduct Compliance: Upholding the organization’s values, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to safeguarding and ethical standards.
- Team Collaboration: Working collaboratively with other volunteers and staff to achieve program objectives effectively.
Qualifications and Skills
- University Degree or HND in Health, Nutrition, or related field is an added advantage.
- Strong interest in community health and nutrition promotion.
- Basic understanding of hygiene, nutrition, and maternal-child health concepts.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with community members, especially women and children.
- Fluency in English and local languages is desirable.
