    Head of Human Resources

    Job Overview

    • The Human Resource Manager – West Africa is responsible for leading, governing and executing the regional HR strategy across Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and other assigned West African markets ensuring alignment with business objectives, group HR frameworks and local labour legislation.
    • The role provides strategic and operational HR leadership, manages country HR teams, drives employee relations excellence, ensures regulatory compliance, and builds a high-performance, compliant and engaged workforce across the region. The incumbent acts as a trusted advisor to regional leadership, balancing standardisation with local market realities.
    • The position will be based in Lagos, Nigeria and regional travel across West Africa as required

    Key Objectives

    • Regional HR Strategy & Leadership
    • Develop and implement a West Africa HR strategy aligned to regional business goals and Africa Office frameworks.
    • Provide strategic HR guidance to senior leadership on organisational design, workforce planning and people risk.
    • Lead, coach and performance-manage HR Managers in Ghana and Senegal, ensuring consistent HR delivery standards.
    • Drive HR maturity across emerging markets while respecting local cultural and legislative differences.

    Employee Relations (ER) & Industrial Relations

    • Lead complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary processes, grievances, disputes and terminations.
    • Provide expert advice on labour relations, union engagement and collective bargaining where applicable.
    • Ensure fair, consistent and legally compliant handling of ER cases across all markets.
    • Mitigate people-related risk through proactive ER strategies and manager capability building.

    Compensation, Benefits & Rewards

    • Oversee regional compensation and benefits frameworks, ensuring internal equity and external market competitiveness.
    • Support annual remuneration reviews, salary benchmarking and incentive schemes.
    • Ensure compliance with statutory benefits (pensions, social security, medical, taxes) across all countries.
    • Partner with Finance to manage payroll governance and benefits cost optimisation.

    Talent Acquisition (TA) & Workforce Planning

    • Provide strategic oversight of regional talent acquisition and workforce planning initiatives.
    • Ensure effective recruitment for senior, critical and scarce-skills roles.
    • Strengthen employer branding and diversity hiring across West Africa.
    • Ensure compliance with local employment, immigration and localisation requirements.

    Learning, Training & Development (L&D)

    • Define and implement regional learning and development priorities aligned to business capability needs.
    • Oversee leadership, management and technical development programmes.
    • Support succession planning and talent development for key and critical roles.
    • Ensure compliance with country-specific training levies, learning authorities and skills regulations.

    Performance Management & Culture

    • Lead the implementation and governance of the regional performance management framework.
    • Support leaders in setting objectives, conducting performance reviews and managing underperformance.
    • Drive a culture of accountability, engagement and high performance.
    • Monitor engagement trends and lead improvement initiatives.

    HR Operations, HRIS & Reporting

    • Oversee HR operations across the region, ensuring consistent processes and service delivery.
    • Lead the effective use of HRIS platforms, data integrity and system optimisation.
    • Produce accurate, timely and insightful HR reports and dashboards for regional and global stakeholders.
    • Ensure compliance with data privacy and record-keeping requirements.

    Compliance, Labour Law & Governance

    • Ensure full compliance with West African labour laws, including Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal.
    • Monitor changes in employment legislation and assess business impact.
    • Lead HR audits, policy reviews and risk mitigation actions.
    • Ensure alignment with global HR policies while adapting to local legal requirements.

    Onboarding, HR Generalist & Ad-hoc Support

    • Oversee regional onboarding and induction programmes to ensure effective employee integration.
    • Provide generalist HR support across the employee lifecycle.
    • Support regional change initiatives, restructures and organisational transformations.
    • Handle ad-hoc HR projects as required by the business.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Organisational Psychology, or related field.
    • Postgraduate qualification in HR, Labour Relations or Business Management (advantageous)
    • Professional HR certification preferred (e.g., CIPM Nigeria, SHRM, CIPD, HRCI or equivalent)
    • Minimum 7–10 years’ progressive HR experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or regional HR leadership role
    • Proven experience managing HR teams across multiple West African countries
    • Strong working knowledge of Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal labour laws and HR practices
    • Experience operating in multinational or matrix organisations
    • Demonstrated capability in employee relations, compliance, compensation, performance management and HR operations
