    Head of Accounts

    JOB PURPOSE

    • To provide strategic financial leadership and ensure sound fiscal management across the school. The Head of Accounts will lead the finance team in delivering accurate financial analysis, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting the school’s short- and long-term strategic growth plans through effective budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation.

    OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

    • The Head of Accounts is a key member of the school’s leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations. This includes financial planning, performance reporting, risk management, and ensuring robust financial systems are in place to support ongoing institutional development. The role requires strategic insight, hands-on financial management, and experience managing complex assets and capital expenditures.

    RELATIONSHIPS

    • The Head of Accounts is appointed by the Director of Schools in consultation with the Head of School and HR.
    • The post holder reports directly to the Director of Schools and, in their absence, to the Head of School. The role involves close collaboration with the Accounts team, Administrative team, senior leadership, parents/guardians, external auditors, financial institutions, and relevant regulatory bodies.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategic and Financial Leadership

    • Lead and manage the Accounts team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Develop and implement financial strategies and policies that align with the school’s vision for growth and sustainability.
    • Provide high-level financial analysis and reporting to support strategic decision-making by the Board and senior leadership.

    Budgeting, Planning, and Reporting

    • Prepare and oversee the annual budget, forecasts, and long-term financial models.
    • Monitor financial performance and advise leadership on variances, trends, and opportunities for cost optimization.
    • Ensure timely preparation of financial statements and management reports in line with accounting standards.

    Financial Systems and Controls

    • Strengthen internal financial controls and risk management frameworks to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.
    • Manage cash flow, capital expenditure, and asset registers to support institutional development plans.
    • Liaise with banks, auditors, and regulatory agencies to ensure transparency and fiscal integrity.

    Advisory and Stakeholder Support

    • Provide financial insight and guidance to senior leaders and department heads.
    • Support major projects and institutional initiatives with sound financial planning and due diligence.
    • Serve as a key liaison with external consultants, contractors, and vendors on matters relating to financial oversight.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    • Chartered Accountant (ICAN, ACCA) — mandatory.
    • Proven experience in financial leadership, ideally within the education, construction, or non-profit sectors.
    • Strong background in financial management, capital planning, and resource optimization.
    • In-depth knowledge of accounting standards, compliance, and audit processes.
    • Excellent analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work collaboratively across departments.
