    Gender Equality Advisor

    Duration: This assignment is expected to start immediately with a level of effort (LOE) not more than 135 workdays over a period of one year.

    Background

    • Canada's Field Support Services Project (FSSP) seeks to hire a Gender Equality Advisor to provide expert analysis and advice to Global Affairs Canada (GAC) on a broad range of gender equality issues, trends, and practices in support of GAC's Development Program in Nigeria.
    • GAC is guided by Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy, which Centres on gender equality (GE) and the empowerment of women and girls as the most effective way to build a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous world. Canada requires the services of a Gender Equality Advisor in integrating gender equality into its bilateral development and humanitarian assistance programs to support efforts to improve the quality of life for poor and marginalized people in Nigeria, particularly women and girls.

    Scope of Work

    • Provide expert analysis and advice on gender equality issues, trends and practices in Nigeria as to support operational projects and Canada's current and planned development sectors;
    • Provide analysis, comments, and recommendations on project implementation documents and project proposals;
    • Provide technical assistance to operational projects to support their implementation of gender equality-related activities and outcomes;
    • Provide monitoring support to operational projects as required;
    • Assist with policy dialogue, coordination, and engagement as needed by drafting key messages, providing comments on documents, writing strategic papers, or other,
    • Organize and facilitate leaning sessions, donor coordination group meetings, or other events that foster knowledge management and broader sharing and learning among development stakeholders
    • Conduct research and prepare written and oral briefings, presentations, meetings, and reports as requested.

    Essential Qualifications / Experience
    Candidates must demonstrate in their CV and cover letter how they meet the following requirements:
    Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience (recently acquired, within the last 10 years) in development programming focused on gender equality in development (i.e. in health, economic growth, education, masculinities. social norms.
    • Experience working with women rights organizations, women's groups, and/or women and girl beneficiaries of different backgrounds and diversities (1.e. ethnic groups, women with disabilities, etc.)
    • Demonstrated understanding of transformative gender equality programming and what works to effect community and household behavior change in support of gender equality
    • Knowledge of the policy environment in Nigeria at the national and state level related to women's rights
    • Demonstrated experience providing advice and recommendations, including drafting briefing notes, sectoral analyses, and monitoring and assessment reports for senior decision makers in donor agencies, government, civil society organizations or the private sector. Samples of work to be supplied upon request.

    • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
    • Strong networking skills and ability to develop and maintain working relationships
    • Demonstrated skill in time management and delivery of finalized reports/deliverables by deadline.

    Education:

    • Post-graduate Degree, such as a Masters, from an accredited, recognized institution in a relevant discipline such as Social Studies, Women's Studies, International Development, etc
    • A Bachelor's Degree may be accepted f the candidate can demonstrate ten years or more of relevant experience.

    Assets:

    • Gender equality experience in a wide variety of development sectors (ie. health, economic growth, education, etc.).
    • Experience with feminist and participatory monitoring and evaluation.
    • Knowledge of networks, organizations, and professionals working in the area of gender equality for development in Nigeria.
