Location of Implementation: Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara & Sokoto States, Nigeria.
Position Summary
The GBV & Protection Assistant (Volunteer) will support the implementation of community-based GBV and protection activities aimed at promoting safety, dignity, and access to services for vulnerable populations (women and girls). The volunteer will assist in awareness-raising, case follow-up, data collection, and community engagement under the supervision of the Protection Officer or GBV & Protection Project Manager.
This volunteer role is ideal for individuals passionate about human rights, social justice, and community protection work.
Specific Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of community protection and awareness activities on gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, and safeguarding.
- Conduct outreach and sensitization sessions on protection rights, referral pathways, and available support services.
- Assist in identifying and referring vulnerable individuals to appropriate service providers (health, psychosocial, legal, or livelihood support).
- Help facilitate focus group discussions (FGDs) and community feedback sessions on protection concerns.
- Support the creation and strengthening of community-based protection groups and child protection committees.
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation of protection-related cases and referrals.
- Collect and compile data from protection activities for reporting and analysis.
- Participate in coordination meetings, trainings, and workshops as assigned.
- Promote gender inclusion, non-discrimination, and respect for diversity in all activities.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor to support protection and safeguarding activities.
Areas of Accountability
The GBV & Protection Assistant (Volunteer) will be accountable for:
- Confidentiality and Ethics: Handling sensitive information with discretion and maintaining survivors’ privacy and dignity.
- Community Engagement: Promoting inclusive participation and community-led protection mechanisms.
- Reporting: Ensuring accurate and timely submission of protection activity reports.
- Compliance: Upholding GIDAUNIYA’s safeguarding, child protection, and volunteer code of conduct.
- Collaboration: Working effectively with staff, community leaders, and partners to enhance protection outcomes.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of Diploma in Gender Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Community Development, or related field is an added advantage. University degree or HND is a plus.
- Strong interest in human rights, gender equality, and protection issues.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations (women, children, persons with disabilities) is desirable.
- Fluency in English and local languages is desirable.
