    GBV Case Worker

    CONTRACT DURATION: 13 MONTHS

    LOCATION: NGALA, BORNO STATE

    EYN Project in partnership with Care International will be implementing COVID19-adapted life-saving assistance through integrated protection support to conflict-affected populations (newly displaced, returnees and host community) in Ngala LGA of Borno State, Northeast Nigeria

    This project will provide response to GBV through women and girls safe spaces, and case management and income generation

    GBV prevention activities will be conducted through the establishment of GBV vigilante committees, awareness raising and PSEA sessions

    The Action will also support response to GBV by providing training to health and raising community awareness of post-rape care.

    ABOUT THE JOB:

    The GBV caseworker will be based in Ngala will offer GBV screening services, holistic case management to survivors while ensuring improved quality of health and psychosocial support, and support in developing functional referral networks that enhance survivors' ability to receive confidential, safe, and timely services that meets their needs.

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Caseworker will be responsible for the following, including extensions of those expressly stated:

    • Ensuring that Survivor-Centred Approach Guiding principles are maintained and enforced while working with women and adolescent girls.
    • Responsible for the supervision of the activities and safety of the safe space of women and adolescents for girls
    • Facilitating the setting up of information desk at the women and girls centers where adolescents girls and women of reproductive age can access information on Sexual Reproductive Health.
    • Supporting at-risk individuals or survivors by referring (with their consent) to other service providers (Health, legal counseling, shelter, livelihoods, or mental health, etc.)
    • Providing direct support, care, basic information, counseling, and case management for vulnerable girls (including survivors of gender-based violence) through assessment of survivor needs, developing an action plan, implementing the project, follow up and case closure methods in line with the GBV case management standard operating procedure and IASC guidelines on case management (SOP).
    • Ensuring that Do No Harm principles are implemented, observed, and upheld in all the engagements of the Case Worker.
    • Responsible for the selection and supervision of all community volunteers working in the women and girls' center
    • Identifying resource needs and facilitate the requests for supplies at centers.
    • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of artisans providing skills training adolescent girls.
    • Liaising with the MEAL Officer and line manager to produce monthly data and regular narrative reports.
    • Supporting the implementation as well as ensuring the adherence to monitoring and evaluation plans.
    • Providing weekly case update to supervisor (GBV Officer), including new cases identified, number of referrals, cases closed, and follow-ups.
    • Providing weekly reports on activities at the women and girls' center. This will include key achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and follow-up support needed from the supervisor.
    • Participating in case conference meetings and provide summary information on critical cases that required case conference.
    • Maintaining positive coordination and relationship with other partners in the field to promote a holistic approach to case management.
    • Documenting and sharing relevant information that will inform the development of case studies and or success stories of the project Provide direct, one-on-one, and ongoing case management services, including safety planning.
    • Provide referrals for child survivors to other services, including child protection and specialized mental health services, accompany survivors where appropriate, and conduct follow-up and manage case conferencing to ensure appropriate services have been provided to the survivor.
    • Identify gaps in referral services / service providers and report these gaps to the GBV Manager for action.
    • Liaise with community volunteers for outreach activities in the community and camps.
    • Complete and safely store case management records to maximize confidentiality and safety
    • Participate in case review meetings and sector referral coordination meetings if needed
    • Contribute to a positive team environment
    • Practice self-care
    • Promote the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse  (PSEA) standards in EYN projects and beneficiaries.
    • Any other duties that may be assigned

    Qualification:

    • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social sciences, public health, nursing required or any other related field from a certified tertiary institution
    • At least 2years humanitarian experience in Protection

    Skills:

    • Teamwork: Promotes effective collaboration within and across units to achieve shared goals and optimize results.
    • Delivering result: Willingness and ability to take the initiative in identifying problems and suggesting and implementing solutions.
    • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive, and empathize with all beneficiaries and their career experience in GBVIMS and case management.
    • Flexible and willing to work and stay in the community of implementation
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with all staff, internal and external stakeholders.
    • Willingness and readiness to take the initiative in their work, identify problems, and making suggestions for effective solutions.
    • Proven capacity for management and leadership
    • Demonstrable ability at report writing
    • Experience in Kanuri and Hausa language is highly desirable
    • Computer literacy
    • Excellent presentation skills.
    • A critical thinker with outstanding interpersonal skills.
