    Farm Manager

    Job Responsibilities – Farm Manager

    • Develop and implement comprehensive crop plans for open field cultivation, with a specialized focus on cabbage and watermelon.
    • Optimize planting schedules, crop rotations, and cultivation techniques to maximize yield and quality.
    • Monitor and assess soil health regularly, implementing strategies to enhance fertility and address nutrient deficiencies specific to cabbage and watermelon cultivation.
    • Collaborate with agronomists to analyze soil samples and adjust nutrient management practices accordingly.
    • Design and oversee efficient irrigation systems tailored to the water needs of cabbage and watermelon crops.
    • Implement water conservation practices and ensure optimal moisture levels to support healthy plant growth.
    • Develop and execute integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to control pests and diseases affecting cabbage and watermelon crops.
    • Stay informed about the latest advancements in pest control methods and implement preventive measures.
    • Plan and coordinate harvest schedules, ensuring timely and efficient harvesting of cabbage and watermelon crops.
    • Establish and enforce quality control measures for cabbage and watermelon crops, adhering to industry standards and customer specifications.
    • Implement protocols to minimize post-harvest losses and optimize the market value of the produce.
    • Develop annual budgets for the open field farming operations, considering inputs, labor, and equipment requirements.
    • Monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure efficient use of resources.
    • Supervise and lead a diverse team of farm workers, providing guidance and support in day-to-day operations.
    • Conduct training sessions to enhance the team's knowledge and skills in cabbage and watermelon cultivation.
    • Stay abreast of the latest research and innovations in vegetable cultivation, particularly in cabbage and watermelon production.
    • Experiment with new techniques and technologies to enhance crop yields and sustainability.
    • Maintain accurate records of crop activities, including planting dates, pest control measures, and harvest yields.
    • Prepare regular reports for management, highlighting key performance indicators and suggesting improvements.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in farm management, with a focus on greenhouse and open field production of bell pepper, tomatoes, cabbage, cassava, sweet corn, and habanero.
    • Strong knowledge of crop agronomy, soil science, irrigation systems, and pest and disease management.
    • Experience with organic and/or sustainable farming practices is highly desirable.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Proficiency in computer software for record-keeping, data analysis, and farm management.
