Terre des hommes (Tdh) is a leading Swiss organization for children’s aid. Since 1960, Tdh has helped build a better future for deprived children and their communities, making an impact with innovative and sustainable solutions. Active in more than 45 countries, Tdh works with local and international partners to develop and implement field projects which improve the daily lives of over 3 million children and their relatives, in the domains of health, protection, and emergency relief. This engagement is financed by individual and institutional support, with administrative costs kept to a minimum.

Tdh in Nigeria implements projects in Health, Wash, Child Protection, and Education sectors.

Position's overview:

Tdh seeks to recruit 30 field data collectors (enumerators), to meet the needs for conducting data collection towards monitoring of activities. The monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Unit relies on external support (these enumerators) to collect real-time monitoring data, baseline and end-line data, including research and evaluation for different projects. Enumerators will participate in different pieces of training (depending on the intended assessment or monitoring) to be briefed and trained prior to being deployed to the field.

The field data collector (enumerator) will sign a work-based contract, based on the needs and available opportunities for data collection, thus, it will be upon the request of M&E Unit, a successful enumerator in the pool is called for data collection, depending on the type of survey, when the need arises.

Also, this enumerator's position provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands‐on experience in field data collection while conducting these surveys for monitoring of activities, which play a critical role in planning and carrying out data collection. Overall, it’s expected that the enumerator will work closely with the M&E Unit team and project team to perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:

Main responsibilities:

• Adhere to all Tdh survey and data protocols.
• Collecting data as per the project requirement for different sites where enumerator is expected to base.
• Conduct interviews (may include focus group discussion, Key Informant Interviews and one-one interviews) with project beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries in the field based on the questionnaire developed by the M&E unit.
• Accurately record responses on questionnaire using mobile data collection tool (Kobo collect)
• Involve in survey piloting to ensure that questionnaires have been thoroughly checked and completed.
• Submit complete questionnaire and other equipment used for fieldwork to the supervisor, also compile his/her findings in a format as required by the supervisor.
• Report any challenges/issues to the supervisor and when possible, suggest solutions.

Other professional skills required

• Understands and applies security policies, the Child Safeguarding Policy, and fraud prevention policies
• The applicant must have at least a national diploma, in any of the following fields: Education, Social Science (Psychology, Sociology, population, and development studies), Business Communication, Economics, Statistics, Health, any other related fields of studies.
• Must have practical knowledge of MS Office
• Should be familiar with computer-assisted interviews (Kobo, ODK (Open Data Kit), CTO) and have the ability to use electronic devices, i.e., tablets or smartphones
• Must be fluent in English language, written and spoken in (Hausa and Kanuri language) is essential.
• Extensive knowledge  of quantitative and qualitative data collection; a passion for learning best practices and innovations is desired
• Having at least one year of experience in data collection with an open data kit (ODK)
• Prior experience in conducting surveys with both adults and children.
• Willingness to travel independently and extensively within rural communities
