Location of Implementation: Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara & Sokoto States, Nigeria.
Position Summary
The Education Assistant (Volunteer) will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of education and learning activities in schools, learning centers, and community-based programs. The volunteer will assist in tutoring, mentoring, classroom management, and community outreach aimed at improving literacy and school attendance.
This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education, community development, and child empowerment.
Specific Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers and facilitators in delivering lessons, tutorials, and literacy sessions for children and youth.
- Support classroom management by helping prepare teaching materials and maintaining a conducive learning environment.
- Conduct after-school or weekend learning clubs to support children struggling with literacy, numeracy, or life skills.
- Help organize school-based activities, such as reading clubs, debates, and educational competitions.
- Participate in community sensitization on the importance of education, especially for girls and marginalized children.
- Support data collection for education monitoring, including attendance tracking and progress reports.
- Assist in organizing teacher training workshops and distributing learning materials.
- Identify learners with special needs and support appropriate referrals or interventions.
- Document success stories and lessons learned from education activities.
- Perform other duties related to education support as assigned by the supervisor.

The Education Assistant (Volunteer) will be accountable for:

- Team Collaboration: Working respectfully with teachers, volunteers, and community leaders.
Qualifications and Skills
- B.Sc., NCE, HND in Education, Social Sciences, or related field.
- Strong interest in teaching, mentoring, or child development.
- Basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills; ability to communicate clearly.
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural and low-resource environments.
- Fluency in English and local languages is desirable.
