The Community Mobilisation and Engagement Assistant will lead community-level outreach, sensitisation and engagement activities to build awareness of child protection risks, available services and community-based protection mechanisms.
The role is central to fostering community ownership of CP structures and ensuring meaningful participation of children, caregivers and community leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and implement community awareness and risk communication sessions on CP risks, reporting mechanisms, physical dangers and available services targeting children, caregivers and community members in Ngala and Kaga.
Support the identification, formation and capacity strengthening of 2 Community-Based Child Protection Committees (CBCPCs), one in each LGA.
Facilitate regular meetings and operational support sessions for CBCPCs and document minutes and activity reports.
Mobilise and sensitise communities for beneficiary identification, CFS enrolment and participation in protection activities.
Coordinate with CP Community Volunteers to ensure effective community outreach and information dissemination.
Support the mobilisation of participants for FGD sessions, ensuring appropriate gender and age disaggregation.
Maintain accurate records of community engagement activities, session attendance registers and awareness session reports.
Identify and report CP concerns, community feedback and protection risks to the CP Officer.
Liaise with community leaders, religious leaders and local authorities to build trust and facilitate access for CP programming.
Contribute to monthly reporting and documentation of community engagement activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Community Development, Public Health, Education or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in community mobilisation, social mobilisation or community engagement in humanitarian or development programmes.
Demonstrated knowledge of child protection, GBV or MHPSS issues in humanitarian contexts.
Strong interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse community groups including women, children and persons with disabilities.
Fluency in Hausa and/or Kanuri required; working knowledge of English is essential.
