    Coding and Robotic Teacher

    Job Description

    • The Coding and Robotics Teacher at Discovering Talents Academy (DTA) is responsible for delivering engaging and effective instruction in coding and robotics to primary school pupils.
    • This role involves fostering a deep understanding of computational thinking, problem-solving skills, and technological innovation, while nurturing a lifelong passion for learning.
    • The Coding and Robotics Teacher plays a crucial part in upholding DTA's mission to "create an atmosphere of fun where kids can enjoy being kids" and its vision to "discover and bring out the uniqueness in every child," by ensuring individualized teaching and promoting academic excellence within the SHRID niche, particularly focusing on Skills development, Higher-order thinking, Inquiry-based learning, Digital literacy, and Engagement.
    • The Coding and Robotics Teacher at DTA is dedicated to empowering pupils to discover their unique potential through technology, preparing them for a future driven by innovation and creativity.

    Key Responsibilities
    Instructional Delivery & Curriculum Implementation:

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging coding and robotics lessons in accordance with DTA's blended British-Nigerian curriculum and academic standards.
    • Implement DTA's SHRID niche, particularly focusing on:
      • Fostering a profound "Love for Coding" through diverse projects and engaging programming challenges.
      • Ensuring consistent implementation of structured coding practices for clarity and logical organization.
      • Promoting clear articulation and effective communication of technical concepts among pupils.
      • Applying Individualized Teaching strategies to cater to diverse learning styles and needs in coding and robotics.
      • Integrating Skill Acquisition in areas such as computational thinking, algorithms, basic programming, and robotics assembly.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, resources, and technology to make coding and robotics accessible and enjoyable for all pupils.
    • Set clear learning objectives and provide constructive feedback to students to support their progress in all aspects of coding and robotics.
    • Prepare pupils for internal and external examinations, including coding and robotics components of entrance examinations.

    Assessment & Reporting:

    • Design and administer fair, valid, and reliable assessments (tests, quizzes, continuous assessments, and project evaluations) to evaluate student understanding and progress in programming, robotics, problem-solving, and computational concepts.
    • Analyze assessment data to identify learning gaps, inform instructional adjustments, and provide targeted support to students.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, performance, and grades in coding and robotics.
    • Prepare comprehensive progress reports for parents, highlighting academic achievements and areas for development in coding and robotics.

    Classroom Management & Environment:

    • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment conducive to coding exploration and hands-on robotics learning.
    • Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure an orderly and respectful learning atmosphere.
    • Encourage active participation, critical thinking, and collaborative activities (e.g., group coding sessions, peer debugging).
    • Ensure the classroom is well-resourced with diverse tools, kits, and software to support coding and robotics instruction.

    Student Welfare & Support:

    • Monitor the academic and social-emotional well-being of students, identifying and addressing any concerns promptly.
    • Provide individualized support and interventions for students who require additional assistance in coding and robotics development.
    • Collaborate with parents, support staff, and other teachers to ensure holistic development and address student needs.
    • Serve as a Form Tutor/Class Teacher as assigned, overseeing general welfare and academic progress of a designated class, which may include teaching other subjects.

    Professional Development & Collaboration:

    • Actively participate in departmental meetings, school-wide professional development sessions, and training programs, particularly those related to STEM, coding, and robotics.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, develop curriculum materials, and enhance the overall academic program.
    • Contribute to school events and activities, such as coding competitions and robotics clubs, as required.
    • Utilize the DTA software for academic tracking, communication, and appraisal processes.

    Policy Adherence:

    • Strictly adhere to all DTA policies and procedures, including those related to punctuality, dress code, safety, and ethical conduct.
    • Uphold the professional standards and values of Discovering Talents Academy at all times.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Primary Education with a specialization in STEM, or a related field with a strong emphasis on coding and robotics pedagogy.
    • A Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or National Certificate in Education (NCE) is an added advantage.
    • Experience: Minimum of (2-4) years of proven experience teaching Coding/Robotics or STEM subjects at the primary school level.
    • Experience with a blended British-Nigerian curriculum is a plus.
    • Subject Matter Expertise: Strong knowledge of primary school coding and robotics curriculum, computational thinking, programming languages (e.g., Scratch, Python basics), robotics kits, and problem-solving strategies.
    • Technological Proficiency: Proficient in using educational technology, coding platforms, robotics hardware (e.g., LEGO Mindstorms, Arduino), and relevant software for teaching coding and robotics.
    • Experience with school management software (e.g., DTA software) is an advantage.
    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely, and model logical thinking.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
