    Chief Business Development Officer

    About the job

    • As the Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) for Johnvents Foods, you will be the commercial engine of our food processing and FMCG business. You are responsible for transforming our high-quality raw commodity inputs into market-leading consumer products. Your mission is to scale our market share across Nigeria and export corridors, build high-value distribution networks, and create an aggressive growth strategy for our cocoa, cashew, and edible oil product lines. You will move the company from "commodity supply" to a "consumer-trusted brand."

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Market Expansion

    • Growth Strategy: Develop and execute an ambitious 3–5 year commercial roadmap to establish Johnvents Foods as a dominant player in the Nigerian FMCG landscape
    • Corridor Expansion: Identify and capture high-value export opportunities in international markets, ensuring our products meet global quality and certification standards
    • New Product Development (NPD) Support: Partner with the production team to identify market gaps for new products (e.g., cocoa derivatives, healthy snacks, specialty oils) and lead their commercial launch

    Distribution & Channel Excellence

    • Network Building: Build and professionalize a tiered distribution network—securing placement in major retail chains, modern trade, and fragmented traditional markets
    • Key Accounts: Manage relationships with key institutional buyers, B2B partners, and large-scale retailers to ensure consistent shelf presence and volume growth
    • Pricing & Trade Marketing: Implement data-driven pricing strategies and trade marketing campaigns that drive velocity and brand loyalty at the point of sale

    Commercial Intelligence & Sales Operations

    • Performance Monitoring: Lead the sales organization with a "performance-first" culture. Establish robust CRM systems and sales reporting to track SKU performance, territory coverage, and distributor ROI
    • Competitive Analysis: Keep a pulse on the competition—pricing, packaging, and distribution strategies—and adapt our commercial tactics in real-time
    • Budget Accountability: Own the revenue targets and marketing spend budgets, ensuring that commercial activities are optimized for profitability

    .4. Leadership & Stakeholder Management

    • Team Building: Hire, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of sales managers, territory representatives, and trade marketers.
    • Board Engagement: Provide the Board and GMD with regular, actionable intelligence on market trends, sales forecasts, and commercial health

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Revenue Growth: Annual percentage increase in top-line revenue for processed/FMCG products.
    • Market Penetration: Number of new retail outlets/regions acquired and serviced.
    • Distributor Efficiency: Average sales per distributor/region and inventory turnover rates.
    • Product Launch Success: Conversion rate and sales velocity of new product lines introduced to the market.

    Requirements

    • Experience: 12–15+ years in commercial roles within the FMCG or Food Processing industry, with at least 5 years at a Senior Management/Director level.
    • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in taking an FMCG product from local distribution to national or regional market leadership.

    Technical Skills:

    • Expert in modern trade dynamics and retail channel management.
    • Strong capability in financial modeling and sales forecasting.
    • Deep understanding of supply chain logistics as it relates to commercial timelines and shelf-life management.

    Leadership Attributes:

    • Strategic Aggression: You are not satisfied with "steady growth"; you are constantly seeking to capture more market s hare.
    • Resilience: You thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of the Nigerian food ma rket.
    • Influence: Ability to negotiate at the highest levels of retail and international t rade.
