    Borehole Operator

    SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    The Borehole Operator is in charged with the responsibility of generating and distributing water from boreholes, and storing them into reservoirs through pipes to the buildings and other infrastructures in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures of the American University of Nigeria, Facilities Management Department.

    DETAILED LISTING OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Monitoring and operating all the boreholes in the location
    • Monitoring and operating the generators in the location.
    • Monitoring of the voltages.
    • Monitoring and handling of minor electrical and mechanical faults in the location.
    • Monitoring of water distribution network.
    • Reporting on daily basis the condition of all equipment within the location.
    • Reporting and recording of water consumption and production on daily basis.
    • Reporting and Recording diesel supply and consumption.
    • Reporting and control of pressure on the distribution network.
    • Assisting in major repairs of facility within his jurisdiction
    • Reporting generator usage and condition on daily bases.
    • Generator operators adjust controls to distribute power demands among the generators.
    • Monitors the instruments that regulate the flow of electricity from the plant.
    • When power needs change, they start or stop the generators.
    • Then they connect or disconnect them from the circuits.
    • Writes reports of malfunctions or repairs that occur during their shift.
    • Handles emergencies such as line failures.
    • Controls the flow of power in and out of the buildings
    • Controls the generator’s level of water, oil and diesel
    • Takes readings of diesel tank level and records, requests diesel
    • Operates the generators necessary to supply buildings and facilities with electrical power during loss of utility until utility is restored
    • Inspects gauges, recorders and meters for safety and informational purposes;
    • Maintains required daily logs readings;
    • Maintains clean the generators and their area

    Requirements for the position:

    • At least a Senior Secondary School graduate with a minimum two years of full time work experience in the generator field, working in regular contact with generators.
    • Be basically familiar with at least three major diesel engine manufacturer’s products, at least one of which is Cummins, Mikano, or Caterpillar.
    • Effective English - verbal and written communication

    Other requirements, abilities for the position:

    • Working in shifts
    • Ability to productively work independently and as an overall integral plant staff team member.
    • Ability to work extended hours if and when required.
