The successful candidate will serve as the senior on-site authority for rig operations, providing leadership to the drilling crew and acting as the critical link between the rig site and company management.

This role demands a seasoned professional who can take full operational ownership of the rig, respond decisively under pressure, and travel extensively from state to state in line with the demands of drilling projects across the country.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise and coordinate all drilling rig operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective performance.
    • Provide hands-on leadership and direction to the Driller, rig crew, and other rig-site personnel.
    • Ensure strict compliance with HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements at all times.
    • Plan and coordinate rig moves, equipment mobilisation, and demobilisation between drilling locations.
    • Monitor drilling parameters, well control procedures, and equipment performance, taking prompt corrective action where necessary.
    • Liaise with client representatives, company management, and third-party service providers on-site.
    • Ensure proper maintenance, inspection, and functionality of rig equipment and machinery.
    • Manage crew schedules, welfare, and performance, fostering a culture of discipline, teamwork, and accountability.
    • Maintain accurate daily drilling reports, logs, and operational documentation.
    • Lead emergency response and well control situations, including blowout prevention procedures, as required.
    • Ensure readiness to mobilise promptly to different rig locations across various states as operational needs demand.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Minimum of a National Diploma (ND) or HND/Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related discipline; relevant industry certifications will also be considered in place of a degree.
    • A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in drilling operations, with significant time served in senior rig positions (e.g. Driller, Assistant Tool Pusher) prior to this role.
    • Proven track record as a Tool Pusher or in an equivalent senior rig supervisory role.
    • Strong working knowledge of well control, blowout prevention (BOP) systems, and drilling equipment operations.
    • Valid Well Control Certification (e.g. IWCF or IADC) is required.
    • Strong leadership, decision-making, and crew management skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and relocate between rig sites across different states, often at short notice.
    • Physically fit and medically certified as fit for rig-based work, including offshore/onshore field conditions as applicable.
    • Strong commitment to safety culture and zero-incident operations.

    Desirable Attributes

    • Prior experience working with international or indigenous drilling contractors in Nigeria.
    • Familiarity with Nigerian regulatory requirements for drilling operations (e.g. DPR/NUPRC guidelines).
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in remote or challenging environments.
    • A track record of mentoring and developing junior rig crew members.

    What We Offer

    • Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience.
    • Opportunity to work on high-profile drilling projects across the world.
    • A dynamic, safety-focused, and professionally driven work environment.
    • Career growth within a reputable and expanding organisation.
