    Associate Editor (Social Media)

    Job Summary

    • We are hiring an Associate Editor (Social Media) to join our editorial team.

    Responsibilities

    • Developing smart and highly engaging social media projects and content for the Africa-curious; managing our social media accounts and newsletters; supporting the team with online and offline audience engagement; and developing social media campaigns to promote reader-to-subscriber conversion.
    • Depending on experience and milestones, the role could transition to Managing Editor, Head of Communications and Audience Engagement, or Head of Growth.

    Who We’re Looking For

    • The Associate Editor position is one of our more senior roles, aimed at experienced (post-NYSC) writers and/or researchers with demonstrable interest in Nigerian and African affairs.
    • You are highly attuned to what is missing from online and offline discussions about Nigeria and the broader African continent, and can produce the necessary information to fill that gap.
    • You have strong communication and content instincts (writings, graphics etc.) and can be a reliable source of information and insights on under reported stories and issues affecting Nigerians and Africans at large.
    • You understand that just because something is important doesn’t mean it is automatically interesting.

    What You’ll Achieve

    • As the Associate Editor (Social Media), you will work with the Editor-in-Chief in identifying The Republic‘s core social media audiences and developing The Republic‘s strategy for engaging such audiences.
    • You will evaluate and improve on The Republic‘s content creation and distribution models, identifying possible content solutions and opportunities for growth.
    • You will grow The Republic‘s presence on core social media and newsletter platforms.
    • Among your core objectives will be launching and managing the leading newsletter covering local politics/news from Nigeria and across Africa.

    How to Stand Out
    You will have:

    • A Master's Degree (preferred) and top-tier academic credentials (2.1 minimum undergraduate qualifications).
    • Graduates of humanities and Social Sciences (e.g. Politics, History, African studies) are highly encouraged
    • At least two years of previous work experience (excluding NYSC)
    • Excellent research, writing and reading skills;
    • Proven ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear, accessible way
    • Networking ability and knowledge of social media communities/landscapes
    • Proficiency with Canva, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Mailchimp
    • Previous editorial and leadership experience
    • Ability to work at a fast pace, remotely and independently while part of a team and
    • An obsession with audiences.
