Role Purpose
The company accountant is in charge of overseeing the company\'s financial health. He/she provides timely and collaborative support to staff members on all financial matters relevant to the implementation of projects and office activities. The accountant also devises budgets, facilitates billing processes, and ensures expense reconciliation and procurement tracking while remaining compliant with tax regulations, grant requirements, and the company\'s financial policies.
Job Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting
- Prepare, update, and maintain detailed financial statements for each business unit, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organisational policies.
- Support project managers in budget preparation, ensuring alignment with project goals and maintaining comprehensive financial record tracking.
- Compile and present financial information for internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
- Prepare and issue consultants\' contracts, ensuring adherence to organisational policies and standards.
Tax Compliance and Regulatory Adherence
- Liaise with external Chartered Accounting firms to ensure timely resolution of tax issues and preparation of yearly accounts.
- Ensure compliance with all tax and federal regulations by timely filing and remittance to FIRS, NSITF, ITF, PENCOM, Insurances, BPP, AMAC, and SAMS.
- Update and refine financial management policies to align with regulatory changes and organisational requirements.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Review and reconcile supplier invoices.
- Preparation and issuance of customer invoices and receipts.
- Manage and reconcile accounts payables and ensure accurate receivables tracking to support cash flow management.
Payroll and Expense Management
- Prepare and process payrolls, ensuring accuracy in salary calculations and timely disbursement.
- Review consultants\' timesheets and process payments in accordance with contract terms.
- Track and manage expenses, supplies, and fixed assets to maintain operational efficiency.
Procurement and Vendor Management
- Facilitate the procurement of office supplies and equipment, ensuring cost efficiency and quality.
- Process payments to suppliers and vendors, maintaining a positive and professional relationship with all stakeholders.
Banking and Financial Liaison
- Maintain relationships with banks and other financial service providers, ensuring smooth transactions and resolving banking-related issues.
- Coordinate with external financial stakeholders to ensure seamless financial operations and compliance.
Project Support and Logistics
- Coordinate logistics arrangements for project activities, including travel arrangements and event planning.
- Provide administrative support to ensure the smooth execution of project deliverables.
- Track and manage project expenses to ensure alignment with budgetary allocations.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for improving financial processes and implement best practices for greater efficiency.
- Maintain and update organisational financial management policies and procedures as required.
Requirements and Skills
- BSc in Accounting, Finance or a relevant degree.
- Minimum of six years experience as an Accountant.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures.
- Hands-on experience with computer software, including Excel and other accounting software.
- Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills.
- Additional certification (ICAN or ACCA) is a plus.
