    Librarian

    Reports To:     Head of School and Principal

    Job Summary
    The purpose is to manage information and resources. Administer libraries and perform related library services. The Librarian will be generally responsible for selecting, acquiring, cataloguing, classifying, circulating, and maintaining library materials; and furnishing reference, bibliographical, and readers' advisory services and also keeping the library users' needs in mind.

    Job Functions:

    The job functions include but are limited to the following:

    • Selecting, developing, cataloguing and classifying library resources
    • Answering readers' enquiries
    • Using library systems and specialist computer applications
    • Liaising with departmental academic staff, external organisations and suppliers
    • Ensuring that library services meet the needs of particular groups of users (eg staff and students)
    • Managing budgets and resources and promoting the library's resources to users
    • Design information storage and retrieval systems, and develop procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying information.
    • Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services, and provide information about library policies
    • Assemble and arrange display materials
    • Confer with teachers, parents, and community organizations to develop, plan, and conduct programs in reading, viewing, and communication skills.
    • Compile lists of overdue materials, and notify borrowers that their materials are overdue.
    • Design information storage and retrieval systems, and develop procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying information.
    • Develop and index databases that provide information for library users. Develop information access aids such as indexes and annotated bibliographies, web pages, electronic pathfinders, and on-line tutorials.
    • Organize collections of books, publications, documents, audiovisual aids, and other reference materials for convenient access.
    • To undertake, where appropriate, other roles, which may arise either in the department or in the wider school environment.
    • Any other duties relating to the job as required from time to time by the Head of School /Principal.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • B.Ed in Library Studies or any other related discipline. Minimum of Second Class Lower
    • Masters or Post Graduate qualification in a related subject is an added advantage
    • 3- 5 years professional experience .
