    Community Mobilization Officer

    Duty Station:     Borno, Maiduguri

    Position Overview:
    Knowledge and understanding of Action Against Hunger mandate, humanitarian principles and current programs. With the program manager, develop coherent messages and send to the community about the missions’ mandate, program objectives and approach. Build trust between the AAH and the community.

    Specific Objectives: 

    • Under the responsibility of the Health & Nutrition Deputy Program Manager and in cooperation with health facility staff, AAH Clinic Supervisor and village leaders, identify the community volunteers to be trained for acute malnutrition case identification and referral as well as public health promotion activities.
    • Ensure gender balanced as well as a mix of different specialties within the community (teachers, TBAs, mothers)
    • Under the responsibility of the nutrition program manager, participate in the design and implementation of training workshops for the community volunteers.
    • Conducts regular supervision of volunteers in the field and to evaluate the adherence of the trained volunteers to the correct nutritional screening, referral of cases and dissemination of public health promotion topics. These includes not only supervision but mentoring/coaching/on the job trainings.
    • Ensures the community sensitization on relevant topic related to the trainings.
    • Continuous on the job training of the community volunteers in public health topics (case by case).
    • Ensure community nutritional screening is functional and linked to health facilities.
    • Work with community volunteers and provide support in the field and report this to the office.
    • Follow up the community volunteers and ensure public health promotion in the community (a wide variety of activities according to the identified needs, for example one-on-one, bazaars, screening days, school groups etc.)
    • Track, report and map all activities under community mobilization for all sectors (FSL, WASH and Nutrition).
    • Participate in regular internal and external coordination for the program at LGA level and at state level when required.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree/HND in health information/Health Education/ Community Health Extension Worker certificate or other related qualifications.
    • Minimum 3 years work experience in humanitarian contexts, with at least 2 years in conflict/insecure contexts.
    • Previous experience in CMAM and community mobilization.

    Essential Skills and Experience:

    • Ability and willingness to frequently travel to villages and stay at the field.
    • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions like long distance walking to screening sites.
    • Capacity to supervise and coach health workers.
    • Ability to work in an environment where there are physical discomforts associated with change in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust or dirt.
    • Professional, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive.
    • Excellent team, budget and project management and representation competencies.

    Preferred Skills and Experience:

    • Microsoft Office Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word).
    • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
    • Fluency in English.
    • Commitment to AAH mission, values and policy.
    • Resident of community area (LGA) of work, networks within community.
    • Proficiency with local languages (Kanuri, Fulani).
    • Previous NGO experience in managing mobilization in different interventions (i.e. cash transfers, wash, Nutrition).
    • Previous experience with AAH.
