The Opportunity
Bistar Limited is seeking a competent, practical and field-oriented Geologist to join our technical team. The role will support drilling, borehole and water-well projects, subsurface investigations, well inspections and related engineering activities. This is a hands-on position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working directly at project sites, personally operating geological and survey equipment, interpreting field data and producing comprehensive professional reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct geological and hydrogeological field investigations, site reconnaissance and subsurface assessments.
- Monitor drilling activities and accurately identify, describe and document formations encountered.
- Prepare detailed lithological and borehole logs from drilling samples, cuttings and field observations.
- Carry out or supervise borehole logging, well inspection and downhole camera surveys.
- Collect, label and document soil, rock, cutting and water samples where required.
- Interpret geological, logging, inspection and survey data and translate findings into practical recommendations.
- Support well construction, development, rehabilitation and troubleshooting activities.
- Maintain accurate field notes, photographs, coordinates, depth records, equipment readings and project documentation.
- Work closely with engineers, drillers, technicians and project managers during field execution. Equipment & Practical Capability Candidates must be willing and able to personally operate field equipment, rather than relying entirely on technicians or third-party contractors. Practical experience with the following is highly desirable: • GPS and field survey equipment.
- Geological and borehole logging equipment.
- Downhole camera and borehole inspection systems.
- Water-level, depth and related measurement equipment.
- Borehole deviation or other downhole survey tools where applicable.
- Sampling equipment and digital field data acquisition systems. Technical Reporting A major responsibility of this position is the preparation of comprehensive technical reports.
The Geologist must be able to compile field observations, logs, photographs, survey information, laboratory results and other technical data into structured reports containing clear interpretations, conclusions and recommendations.
- Prepare geological field reports, borehole logs, well inspection reports and project completion documentation.
- Develop clear tables, logs, geological sections, photographs and supporting technical exhibits. • Maintain records that allow findings and conclusions to be independently reviewed and verified. • Contribute geological input to technical proposals, tenders, methodologies and client presentations. Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Geoscience or a closely related discipline.
- Preferably 3-7 years of relevant practical experience; exceptional candidates with less experience and strong field competence may be considered.
- Demonstrable experience carrying out geological fieldwork and preparing comprehensive technical reports.
- Experience in water-well/borehole drilling, hydrogeology, geological logging, downhole surveys, geotechnical investigation or oil & gas field operations will be an advantage.
- Relevant professional membership, certification or postgraduate qualification will be an advantage. Required Competencies
