    Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor (UNFPA)

    UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

    UNFPA expands the possibilities for women and young people to lead healthy and productive lives.
    Since UNFPA started working in 1969, the number – and rate – of women dying from complications of pregnancy or childbirth has been halved. Families are smaller and healthier. Young people are more connected and empowered than ever before. In Cross River State, the UN System in Nigeria operates through a "Delivery as One" mechanism, having several UN agencies support different programs in the state through one UN agency and in this case, UNFPA.

    The volunteer's role

     

    The Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor substantively contributes to the effective management of UNFPA activities in the areas of gender, and facilitates an integrated approach to strengthening monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning of Population and Development and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues. She/he should be knowledgeable on gender equality and women’s empowerment issues, as well as programming expertise. S/he analyses and assesses relevant political, social and economic trends and provides substantive inputs to project formulation and evaluation, joint programming initiatives and development frameworks across all States covered by the CRDO. S/he advocates for the mainstreaming of gender into policies, programmes and activities pursued by the states. The Officer guides and facilitates the delivery of UNFPA’s programmes by monitoring results achieved during implementation. S/he ensures and guides the appropriate application of systems and procedures and develops enhancements if necessary. S/he works closely with UNFPA staff to build their capacity to ensure that appropriate delivaerables are achieved following established frameworks.

     

    The volunteer will:

     

    - Familiarize self with the UNFPA model, structure, staff and operations.

     

    - Work with staff to develop comprehensive processes and systems to create, acquire, capture and use knowledge to enable learning in line with the objectives, values and policies of UNFPA.

     

    - Support Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning activities for UNFPA.

     

     

     

    Essential Academic Qualifications

     

    University Degree in relevant area (Social Sciences, International Development, Gender studies, etc)

    Essential Professional Background/Competencies

     

    - knowledge of development of operational plans
    - 5-10 years of experience in knowledge management
    - proficient with developing systems and tools to streamline operations

    Desirable Academic Qualifications

     

    - Professional training in knowledge management
    - Experience in global health, policy analysis desirable
    - should have knowledge of health systems in developing countries

    Desirable Professional Background/Competencies

     

    - experienece in working in a developing country or international development organizations

    Important information for candidates

     

    Cuso International covers the following costs:
    - Travel and accommodation for the five-day pre-departure training course and in-country training orientation
    - Return airfare and visa/permit costs
    - The cost of required vaccinations, antimalarial medication and health insurance
    - Access to Employee Assistance Program while overseas and upon return
    - Accommodation while overseas
    - Modest living allowance while overseas
    - Modest support for accompanying partners and dependents going on placement with you for 12 months or longer
    - Travel and accommodation for reintegration debriefing weekend

     

    Fundraising: We ask each volunteer, regardless of placement length, to raise $2,000. All volunteers receive support from Cuso International to help achieve the goal through fundraising. If the volunteer chooses not to fundraise or is unable to achieve the fundraising goal, he/she can make a one-time donation or become a monthly donor to support our work.

    - E-volunteering: Depending on the nature of the placement, the volunteer might be required to provide e-volunteering support to the local partner or Cuso International before or after the field placement.
