    Research Clinician (PregnAnzi II Trial)

    Location: Gambia
    Duration: The appointment is up to 31st December 2020.

    Job Summary

    • The Disease Control and Elimination Theme are undertaking a large multi-country trial to evaluate the impact of one oral dose of azithromycin given to women during labour on neonatal mortality and maternal & neonatal sepsis. This trial is the continuation of a former smaller trial,that showed a strong effect of the same intervention on maternal and neonatal bacterial colonization.
    • We are looking for a Research Clinician to support, the Principal Investigator and Clinical Trial Coordinator in the conduct of the study and trial team of Nurses and Field Assistants.
    • S/he will conduct medical assessments for study participants and provide the necessary medical care following the study specific procedures.

    Requirements
    Essential:

    • MB BS/MD or equivalent medical qualification.
    • Previous clinical experience in paediatrics.
    • Practical experience of health research in developing countries
    • Experience of staff management.
    • Excellent written and spoken English.
    • Excellent interpersonal and verbal written communication skills.
    • A flexible and well-organized approach to work and an ability to meet deadlines.
    • Attention to details.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • A team player and motivator.
    • Willingness to be on-call and work outside the normal working hours.

    Desirable:

    • Previous work on clinical trials of drugs/vaccines following GCP requirements.
    • FWACP Part I or Part II or equivalent in paediatrics.
    • Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Ability to work on data bases and statistical packages.
    • Post graduate studies in Clinical Trials, Epidemiology or equivalent experience.
    • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access).

    Remuneration

    • The salary will be paid in Grade 2, 30 Points of MRCG's payscale at a net monthly salary of D67, 283, This is equivalent to a take home pay $1, 564 per month using the prevailing Dalai/USD exchange rate.
    • Candidates with FWACP Part II or equivalent will be appointed as Research Clinician II on Grade 2,32 Points at a net monthly salary of 75, 148 Dalasi. This converts to a take home pay of approximately $1, 747 per month using the prevailing DaIasi/USD exchange rate.
    • Please note that the salary will be paid in Dalasi and the USD/Dalasi rate is only given as a guide.
    • For displaced staff, the package will include furnished rent free accommodation, flights, contribution to school fees for children and other benefits for displaced staff.

    Clinical Trial Coordinator/Clinician

    Location: Gambia
    Duration: The post is up to 31st December 2020 in the first instance.

    Job Summary

This trial is the continuation of a former smaller trial that showed a strong effect of the same intervention on maternal and neonatal bacterial colonization.
    • We are looking for a Clinical Trial Coordinator/Clinician with significant experience on Clinical Trials in developing countries with the capacity to coordinate a large clinical team in The Gambia and Burkina Faso.
    • The post-holder will support the principal investigator in all aspects of the trial management.
    • S/he will oversee the daily conduct of the trial in The Gambia, supervise the data entry into the CRFs, supervise the management of Serious Adverse Events when they occur and manage the trial team of Clinicians, Nurses and Field Assistants.
    • S/he will be the focal point for communication with the sponsor and the study team at the Burkina Faso site.

    Requirements
    Essential:

    • MB BS or equivalent primary Medical qualification.
    • Post graduate studies in epidemiology, clinical trials or related subject or at least three years of clinical trial experience with proven capacity to effectively take on different aspects of a Clinical Trial.
    • At least 4 years of experience in clinical research.
    • Previous work on clinical trials with drugs or vaccines conducted following GCP requirements.
    • Practical experience of health research in developing countries.
    • Experience of staff management.
    • Excellent written and spoken English.
    • Commitment to working in a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
    • A flexible and well-organized approach to work and an ability to meet deadlines.
    • Attention to details.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • A team player and motivator.
    • Willingness to be on-call and work outside the normal working hours during the trial follow-up period.

    Desirable:

    • Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Previous experience as a Clinical Trial Coordinator.
    • Ability to work on databases and statistical packages.
    • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access).

    Remuneration

    • The salary will be paid in Grade 2, 35 Points of MRCG’s payscale at a net monthly salary of 91, 751 Dalasi. This converts to a net pay of $2, 038 approximately per month using the prevailing Dalasi/USD exchange rate.
    • Please note that the salary will be paid in Dalasi and that the USD figure quoted is only given as a guide.
    • For displaced staff the package will include rent-free furnished accommodation, flights, displacement allowance for spouse and children, contribution to school fees and shipment of personal effects.
